"As regular visitors to the area for over 13 years, we have always found this restaurant to be consistently amongst the best in the Alpujarras. It is located adjacent to the roundabout at the entrance to Cadiar and there is ample free parking available nearby. There is a small tapas bar at the front of the premises and, at the rear, there is a large and plush comedor for more formal dining. For the many sunny days, Ruta has a large terrace available with numerous tables for drinks/tapas, lunches and dinner. The Menu is extensive and exclusively Spanish and it is good to note a number of local specialities, including rabbit with snail and the pork based plato alpujarreno . The meat is excellent, and unusually for the Alpujarras, the choice includes cochinillo (suckling pig) as well as the more commonly available items such as leg of suckling lamb and chops. The paella is excellent and the fish is also good, particularly the salt cod (bacalao) in a local tomato/onion/red pepper based sauce. Portion sizes are huge and it would be wise to share starters and main courses as is the custom locally. The wine list is short and exclusively Spanish and, once again, it includes a selection of local wines from nearby wineries, of which those from Quatro Vientos Marques de la Contraviesa and Barranco Oscuro stand out. On our last visit in March, 2017, we shared a starter of 16 prawns and a main of suckling pig. Including a fino each to start, individual desserts, wine, local mineral water and coffees, our total bill was c.Euros 85, which we felt was good value given the quantity and quality of the food and wine. To end the meal, the waiter left 2 bottles of Spanish liquors on the table, to be drunk ad lib, so be careful but enjoy!"
