"A little out of the way well, quite a longish out of the way in a sparsely populated location in Cataluña Catalunya as the catalans insists ! lies this long established restaurant with a reputation for extraordinary good snails. I had been looking forward to it as it had a very good reputation. We had booked as a party of 15 and so we were shown to a rectangular room on one side of the restaurant. It didnt take long for an uneasy feeling to creep in. The room was soulless, theres was no noise or chatter from outside the room, no overall atmosphere. The waiters we were allocated one with a second that made the odd appearance. There was some excitement in the group looking forward to the snails, given its reputation. Sadly, the waiter did not seem to be too acquainted with the menu though he said he'd been there for some years , the menus were ridiculous. With numbered items to make selection easier ? in several languages Catalan, German, English etc with poor translations , It was a little trying to find and know what to order. As I speak Spanish I asked for the spanish menu, which they claimed was the main menu. That was slightly clearer but with different prices to the same dishes in the multi-language version, and with childish little drawings to indicate what type of food each was , similar to a happy eater type thing ! Numerous attempts to solicit information were ineffective. The one same waiter was to deal with drinks. Asked to recommend wines he simply pointed to the wine list's first page which had some 6 wines in caricaturish form , none of which I'd heard f. So diving into the wine list proper i found a good selction , though the main headings were in that widely spoken World language ,Catalan. Anyway ,somehow we found a decent Ribera del Duero and a good local white, slightly sparkling and no dissimilar to Prosecco. oth wines were much appreciated by all. As for the food, those who ordered snails were delighted. They were served in plain shallow box-like dishes . The other dishes ordered were not disappointing. They were bog-standard items one can find in most decent international cuisine. But each was well done and appreciated. I was disappointed that the dish I ordered which was described as veal and one could reasonably expect thin slices cooked in some sauce or other actually turned out to be fillet of beef served with zuchinni . Excellent as far as it went but I can get that anywhere, I was hoping to sample local cuisine. Others had sole , again very well done but not exceptional . Unfortunately I cannot commend this establishment other than for snails and good international cuisine. It didnt feel like Spain or even Cataluña, the room was characterless, the waiting staff uninformed and the overall experience charmless. Clearly its reputation is the snails. But given the experience and that it's in an out of the way place , regretably its little better than ordinary fare.I wouldnt make a detour to go there."
