"The restaurant “Kanonenhof”, although having a long tradition, was taken over by a young couple from Ex-Yugoslavia only in 2011. So far they made only minor changes. While the interior looks very much like before, the menu was modified to a certain extent. It now comprises a few typical Balkan dishes as e.g. Ćevapčići, but still boasts several of the classics of this restaurant. Some particularities also have remained the same, such as using a milk can rather than a tureen as a container for soup and serving one particular dish in a small wooden push cart. I was somewhat deceived that even on a Sunday at Midday there is only the permanent menu, but no menu of the day. The proprietors as well as the rest of the staff are remarkably hospitable and friendly. I do not know whether the waitress responsible for our table was still an apprentice or not. At any rate, she served the dishes and beverages in a completely unprofessional manner, although she obviously tried to do her best. Kanonenhof certainly strives to be more than an average restaurant and its price level corresponds to this ambition. The main courses we had were alright, but not sensational. A little more attention to presenting the dishes on the plates would be welcome if one wants to belong to this category of restaurants. That they know how to do it proved the “Mohr im Hemd” with a ball of ice cream, which we had as a dessert. It was both excellent and nicely decorated. All summed up we were quite satisfied and in spite of the aforementioned minor shortcomings value for money was acceptable."

Pizzeria Da Pietro

Pizzeria Da Pietro

St. Veiter Str 116, 9020 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Austria

Pizza • Pizzeria • Europäisch • Meeresfrüchte

"“Da Pietro” is not original given that it is run by Austrians rather than Italians. Furthermore, its decoration bears more resemblance to a typical Carinthian than to an Italian restaurant. But apart from that it is quite authentic. There are even the traditional Grissini breadsticks on the table. At any rate, “Da Pietro” is much more than an average suburban pizzeria. The dining room is comfortable but rather small. Thus, there is not much space between the tables. Service was professional and speedy although we arrived at the peak of the lunch time on a Saturday, when almost all outside seats were occupied. Since “Da Pietro” claims its pasta to be home-made and to have expertise on preparing fish, we ordered a pasta dish and two different fish dishes. Unfortunately they have (at least on Saturdays) no menu or specialties of the day, so that one may choose only from the fairly comprehensive permanent menu. It comprises for the most part pretty ordinary Italian dishes, nothing really exceptional. While the pasta dish was fatty and not very tasty, we found both kinds of fish perfectly alright. Apparently the kitchen staff does not care much about decorating the dishes somewhat. Portions ranged from medium-sized to big, thus a main dish alone may not in all instances be sufficient for somebody who is really hungry. Staff was friendly and competent and so service left nothing to desire. Da Pietro is not a place for somebody trying to find the find the cheapest pizza in town, but we considered the prices to be fair for a restaurant of this decent level."
