"This Auberge is in our neighborhood and we have eaten there more than several times. The food is very nice (cooked over an open fire with a seasonal choice of game meats and local specialties). Venison (in season) cooked over an open flame, beef, pork,...lamb, chicken ... escargots and local salads (a salade Vosgienne is a meal in and of itself ... local charcuterie ... cheeses ... homemade desserts. The Menus are a great value for money and with meats expertly cooked over an open fire ... gorgeous! The service can seem a bit slow, but it is a family run operation with few employees and a small village atmosphere ... This is not a place to come in for a quick meal or to simply feed yourself ... it is a place to sit down, take time and enjoy your mealtime and meal. It is frequented by local people and the owners/operators seem to know everyone (as is the case in most small villages)...they are not going to be in a hurry and are going to be reserved if they do not know you...to the point of seeming downright unfriendly depending on the day and traffic flow. The first few times we visited, I was taken aback by the cool reception we seemed to receive ... it has nothing to do with the language you speak, it has to do with how familiar they are with you and how busy the restaurant is that day/evening ... they are not being rude, they are simply not the smiley overly familiar brand of restaurant many people expect in tourist areas The menu is in French so if you are not familiar with French food terminology then perhaps a phrase book would be of some value. It would be a shame to visit the Les Vosges mountains and miss out on this gem of a restaurant tucked away in the beautiful little valley of Le Valtin. Come with a big appetite and time to relax and enjoy!!"
