"BOGLIACO golf club oozes all the old world charm one would expect for the third oldest members' club in Italy. What make Bogliaco so different from so many clubs in the UK is that members routinely come up just to have lunch with business colleagues as well as their family and friends because the quality of the food is so good. Forget the ubiquitous ham, egg and chips that represents the pinnacle of culinary attainment in far too many British golf clubs, at Bogliaco locally sourced ingredients and some local favourites provide a quality only found in the finest Italian restaurants at home. Even if you do not play golf, if you are enjoying a holiday on the western side of Lake Garda, then a journey here to have lunch on the terrace makes sound sense. As a starter one can enjoy a skewer of squid and prawns on a simple salad with lime vinaigrette. Or, if you are looking for something more filling there is a warm salad of octopus served with baby tomatoes, black olives and potatoes. Having played 18 holes on a blazing hot day I only wanted a simple pasta dish and a chilled glass or two of white wine so had the home made ravioli, which the chef makes, filling the soft parcels with finely minced beef and served in a butter and sage sauce. Washed down with a cold bottle of Soave, it was the perfect lunch to sit on this beautiful terrace gazing down the first hole. Had I been hungry I could have enjoyed a rack of local lamb baked in herbs or strips of beef served with rocket, chanterelles mushrooms and sautéd potatoes with flakes of Grana cheese. The menu changes regular and each month there is a different wine selection to enjoy. My companions and I all loved the golf course, although it is a steep climb so a buggy is recommended, but the quality of the course was most certainly matched by the first class, welcoming service we received in the clubhouse and the wonderful lunch we had there. It was the best lunch I have had at a golf club for a very long time."
