"Visited this pub today with my husband and sister in law. We initially sat outside as we had 2 dogs with us. However, a couple who were just leaving told us they weren’t happy as they had been served their food on paper plates as they had been told this was company policy for eating outside. This seemed a bit strange as we had been given proper glasses not plastic ones. My husband asked if we could sit inside as we did not want plastic plates and he was told we could move inside with the dogs. We went inside and ordered our food. After quite a long wait the food arrived a jacket potato, 2 pies and a dish of chips as ordered. We were also given a dish of boiled potatoes. On asking why we had been given these, there was no reply from the waitress. About 10 minutes later a woman appeared at our table (not sure if she was the manager or the chef). She interrupted our conversation and said that in future we should eat food that we had not ordered as quite a few of their customers took food we had not ordered without paying. We explained that we had asked why we had been brought the potatoes but had not received a reply so we thought they were a side for one of the pies. At this stage, in view of the fact that she appeared so annoyed, I twice offered to pay for the potatoes. She said if didn’t matter, said she would “sort out” the member of staff who had brought them and stormed off. We could then hear raised voices in the kitchen. I must say I have never experienced such poor customer service and will not be returning. I just feel sorry for the member of staff involved who made a genuine mistake that could have been dealt with much better. I would like to say that all the young waitresses and bar staff were polite and welcoming and the food was OK but the rudeness of this person spoilt our meal."

"Download the pizza canoe app, you receive 20% discount by ordering this way. Delivery is always reasonable 20-45 minutes and I can’t say we’ve had a bad meal yet. Both the peri peri chicken wings and hot or BBQ wings are spot on, tried numerous takeaways in castleford and haven't found anywhere better for fried chicken! The chips come with American spice as standard, their pizzas, burgers, kebabs and wraps are all tasty. The sauces come separately so you don’t have a wet soggy wrap/kebab like you get elsewhere and the salad is a generous size, again packed separately. The only thing I can pull them on is that you don’t get a proper naan bread with the kebabs, it’s a large chapati that’s wrapped in foil separately but again it’s fresh and warm and not dripping in sauce/grease. We’ve placed 11 orders since 22nd September, they’ve never got an order wrong and the food’s always been spot on no matter what we’ve ordered. I weigh 9 stone 10, I’m not a slob I just have a very busy work schedule and can’t be bothered cooking when I get in. I checked the difference between ordering the exact same dishes through just eat and the pizza Canoe app... £20.50/£14.70 including delivery and that’s for 2 mains, sides, and a large bottle of pop. At these prices I could easily afford to order 7 days a week! The only other gripe I have, which I’m sure will be shared by others, is that when I order a bottle of coke I want a bottle of coke... not a bottle of Pepsi! Might sound petty to some but they are 2 completely different drinks! I’ll cut them some slack however, maybe coke’s been harder to source throughout lockdown! Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!"

"We booked a table of 4 here at the end of September to celebrate my mums 81ST Birthday. She and others had previously had lovely meals and service from the chef. Well what had happened this day? It was a Saturday and we expected it to be busy. There was a function going on too. When we turned up at 12:30pm for our pre booked table no one greeted us. We walked up to the two very sad looking young ladies. Still nothing no hello, no are you ok? I then told them that we had a table for 4 booked. We were moved to our table. We looked like we had put them out! Anyway it just got worse! Whilst stood to order a first round of drinks, the bar man just ignored us! Another guy from a table spoke to him and got served? We then ordered and told most of the beer wasn’t available awaiting a delivery? No apology. Honestly, we eat out every week and it just simply isn’t good enough. When we were served our food it was plonked on the table, no service with a smile! The food itself was large portions we had scampi, beef pies and fish pie. The fish pie had minimal fish and a load of rich cheese mash not good. The beef pie was over salted. Did raise this and got this deleted from payment. We never once were asked how are meals were during the meal. Nor were we able to ask to order drinks from the table we had to order at the bar which took ages. Not good enough again when at a ‘restaurant’. All in all we were disappointed and would not recommend. It is a real shame and had considered a large family meet there later in the year but we won’t be risking heere again. Please sort out your staff and train them !"

"We have visited the Kings Arms before for Sunday lunch and recently made a reservation with our children and parents. The restaurant has now transformed into a Thai restaurant with the option of a Sunday roast dinner. We all opted for the Sunday roast, with 2 pork, 3 trio, and 1 roast beef. Unfortunately, during our meal, the power went out, leaving us in the dark for about 15 minutes. My roast beef tasted off and was inedible, while my mother-in-law also found the beef to have a strange taste. When we brought it up to the server, the manager or cook was summoned to sniff the meat, but no explanation or resolution was offered. It appeared that the meat had been cooked, left to cool, and reheated. At £17.50 for the trio and additional charges for gravy and cauliflower cheese, we expected a better quality Sunday lunch. Despite the mishap, the lack of ownership and accountability was disappointing. We were offered dessert, which we declined due to the unpleasant experience with the meat, and only received a £2 discount, which we found unacceptable. The manager/chef was confrontational when my husband requested the meal be comped. Eventually, two meals were removed from our bill, which we appreciated, but it would have been preferable for that to be offered from the start. Perhaps the restaurant should focus solely on Thai cuisine, as it appears to be their main offering. The combination of Thai food and decor in a traditional pub setting felt mismatched."
