"It was quite late on our third evening in Rome, we had eaten in the early afternoon, but were peckish again and looking to explore the area near our hotel. We wandered down the street and around the corner looking for a likely restaurant. Having already failed to get in one because it was fully booked, this one caught our eye and in we went. It was a cosy place, divided into several small rooms, with just a handful of customers still there. A friendly waiter showed us round into the back room, which had a simple, but nice, décor to it. Dominating one wall was a map of Sardinia and we soon gathered they specialised in Sardinian cuisine there, though the menu was quite extensive. We were the only people in this section, making us feel quite romantic ! The owner came round to us, very friendly and eager to please. As usual, we were slightly restricted in our choices by my wife's many food intolerances, plus we were peckish rather than starving. We made our selection, making clear the things my wife couldn't eat, plus I decided to have some of the typical, crusty bread we found everywhere in Rome. Happily it came with the appropriate olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For drinks we settled, as is often our wont, for a carafe of the house white and some still water. The wine was really pleasant and the water was perfectly chilled. It wasn't long before our food came, not huge portions, but exactly right for our needs. The waiter was attentive, making sure everything was as we wanted. It was ! Afterwards the owner came back out to check if we had enjoyed it and to see if we wanted a dessert. He persuaded me to try one of his Sardinian specialities, a sort of apple fritter that proved to be absolutely delicious. We finished off an excellent light meal with an expresso each. The pleasantest surprise came when we eventually got the bill, a mere €36.00, not including service. Obviously we added an extra €4. I can't recommend this place highly enough for its friendliness, service and tasty food at a very reasonable price. I'm sure that, if we were to visit Rome again, this is a restaurant we'd make a bee-line for !"
