"If you are looking to get the succulent, herb studded, crispy, lacquered skin Porchetta that Anthony Bourdain famously ate on the Rome episode of his travel show, THIS IS IT. My husband and I have intended or attempted to come here on several trips prior, with something always going wrong and preventing touch down. Well, we landed today and it was well worth the wait. Here are the key things to know about I Porchettoni: 1). They are no longer at the via del Pigneto location. Haven’t been for about 3 years. There is another restaurant at that address that serves Porchetta, but it is not I Porchettoni. 2) They are off the beaten path in the San Lorenzo neighborhood Is but well worth the cab ride. It cost us about 8 euro from central Rome. In spite of their non-central location, they were very friendly and welcoming to a couple of obvious tourists. 3) Porchetta!!! Soft meat, crunchy golden skin, herb infused meat goodness. We shared a plate as a starter and we just about stabbed each other for the last piece of crunchy skin. 4). Beer, wine and delicious pastas. There is a full menu of delicious food available at I Porchettoni. We visited on a Thursday and there was a gnocchi special with a meat flavored tomato sauce that was completely heavenly and a fettuccine dish with broccoli and pancetta that made me swoon. Just remember that Via Dei Marrucini 18c is the authentic location and then hop a cab, bus, Vespa, bicycle or skateboard and get some amazing food."
