"I should start by saying we've been disappointed with the food (and the service) here in the past rating it as OK but nothing special. However, on a cold, wet Sunday in mid winter, having secured a parking spot right outside the door, not wanting...to walk far and Il Grillo being closed, we spotted the magic words cinghiale agrodolce written on the blackboard so decided to give it another try. And we were so pleased we did. It's simple inside and a bit lacking in character but the host and the waitress were welcoming beyond words. The menu is much the same as menus elsewhere in southern Tuscany but we were very impressed by the quality and quantity. The Euros 10 (grande) plate of mixed meats, cheeses, crostini and vegetables in olive oil was outstanding there is no other word for it and made even more agreeable by the accompaniment of both honey and marmalata, an essential in my book to go with aged pecorino. I really can't remember the last time I ate a plate like this that was so generous (in many places portions can be meager), so varied and of such good quality. For secondi I had the wild boar in sweet and sour that arrived decorated with saffron threads. Again, the portion was enormous, more than enough for two or more. My husband had the rabbit, which was perfectly OK but nothing out of the ordinary. This, a mixed salad, two coffees and a bottle of Il Pitiglio red set us back Euros 54.90, a sum we both agreed was very good value. We now have bit of a dilemma as we visit Pitigliano regularly and usually choose between two old favourites for lunch. Now we have a third, which will be a good alternative especially when we can eat outside at the pretty tables overlooking the lovely square."
