"as you might see from my profile, i live in Los Angeles, so this review is from the perspective of a regular visitor from the West Coast, USA. Speyer is my husband 's hometown, and where my in laws live, so we 've spent a lot of time in this town. Maximilianstrasse (the main drag down to the Dom has the bulk of the cafes, shops, etc., and Cafe Aran is at the very beginning, right by the Altportal. this is a lovely two story cafe that specializes in serving healthy fare so if you need a break from wurst and sauerkraut, this is your spot. they serve open face sandwiches on housemade bread, and the toppings range from all sorts of breakfasty bits (eggs, bacon, etc to lunchy items (shrimp, curry, tuna and artichoke... . it 's surprisingly filling, and reasonably priced.they take their coffee very, very seriously, but also have a fantastic tea selection. snacks, gelato, and of course a large selection of cakes are also available. ask for the free wifi password at the cashier, and then head upstairs by the windows for a great view of the Altportal and the busy pedestrians, or enjoy the sunshine (if there is any at one of the many tables outside on the plaza. you won 't be hassled to move on, and you can easily spend a pleasant morning or afternoon here."

One of the 2 best best places to have the cappuccino in town. Very nice for breakfast. Fresh baked bread is fantastic

If you have the chance to relax at the Aran located right next to the Altpoertel, the tower, you must eat their warm breads, try some of their awesome Tea variations and the cake after all.... Aran is a gourmet temple !!!

Lots of coffees and teas to choose from to pause while shopping or for a leisurely brunch. Great artisanal open sandwiches. They usually have one gluten-free cake option and most of their ice-cream is also gluten-free - a rare thing on Speyer high street.

WE walked down the Maximilianstrase from the Cathedral passing lots of shops and arrived at the City Gate one of the most important in Germany but needing refreshment we called in at the Aran for coffee and cakes both of which were nice if you order food and have to wait they will hand you a pager to say when your food is ready,

First of all, if you're in the area, definitely visit Speyer. Very cute town by the Rhein with a historic cathedral. Aran is next to the old gate of the city which offers a nice view. Modern inside. Staff are very friendly. They do speak English. I only wish they had a menu in English. Variety of breads and colorful dishes. Best tea and coffee.

My favorite brasserie in Speyer. The coffee and drinks are good and the open face sandwiches are fantastic. You can't go wrong with them. I particularly like the Serrano ham one. You can also get pastries and spreads for a sweeter fare. Ask for the wifi/wlan and they will give you a code for three hours of use. All that combined makes it pretty great.

Firstly, don't miss visiting Speyer. It is such a quaint little German town. I was dropped at 8am and had the morning to wander the streets while my husband worked. I decided I wanted a coffee. I meandered into this shop, as it had a lovely street presence, tables, market umbrellas, and a crowd. What a find. I ordered a Cafe au lait and was not disappointed. It came in the quintessential European bowl with a lovely crema image on the top. There was food too and breads and parties. Just a lovely little find. And I can now say, two trips later, the best coffee I have had in Europe. Not to be missed.

One of the few places in Speyer with free WiFi. Yummy bread selection, as of yet no glutenfree options though. Lately they 've added lots of vegan dishes to the menu yeah and an amazing vegan breakfast! Good partly organic quality and coffee. A bit pricy but well worth it. I love the Grüne Wiese : bread with soy margarine, chive and a juice of your choice. Also available in winter if you ask for it as they take it off the menu in fall : Gotta ask for the WiFi code as well, which is good for 3 hours with a purchase. The spacious outdoor seating gets sun until the late afternoon with beautiful views of the historic Altpörtel. Lots of outlets available indoors to hook up your devices. Cheap all...

Speyer is my husband's hometown, and where my in-laws live, so we've spent a lot of time in this town. Maximilianstrasse (the main drag down to the Dom) has the bulk of the cafes, shops, etc., and Cafe Aran is at the very beginning, right by the Altportal. this is a lovely two-story cafe that specializes in serving "healthy" fare -- so if you need a break from wurst and sauerkraut, this is your spot. they serve open-face sandwiches on housemade bread, and the toppings range from all sorts of breakfasty-bits (eggs, bacon, etc) to lunchy items (shrimp, curry, tuna and artichoke...). it's surprisingly filling, and reasonably priced.they take their coffee very, very seriously, but also have a fa...

"Mr The Anh Nguyen, the owner and also the chef of Le Cyclo, interprets a few traditional Vietnamese dishes using seasonal ingredients, fresh herbs, spices and aromatics. All his creations are served with French elegance. We were a big group of 18 people, so we made reservations in advance and requested several traditional Vietnamese dishes not featured on the standard menu. When people think of Vietnamese cuisine, what comes to mind is “Goi Cuôn” - fresh summer rolls that are ubiquitous in Vietnam. So it makes sense that our dinner starts off with them. Another popular appetizer is “Bò lá lôt” - lightly spiced minced beef rolls wrapped with wild betel leaves and grilled to perfection. “Banh khot” are quintessential appetizers - mini pancakes made with rice flour, minced shrimps and spring onions, golden, crispy and savory. “Chao Tôm” is a traditional appetizer where seasoned shrimp paste is moulded around a sugarcane skewer. Our main dishes are typical home-cooked dishes shared family-style, served with white jasmine rice. We had tasty “Bap Cai Cuôn thit ga-tom Hap Nước Mắm Gung”, which was basically steamed chicken-and-prawn roulade in a fresh ginger-Nước Mắm sauce; “Cá Kho Tô” - considered as comfort food by many Vietnamese, the fish develops a sweet-savory gooeyness from the sugar and fish sauce over the course of a long braise; simple but tasty chicken omelette; and “Rau Muong” stir-fried with garlic - a staple green veggie in Vietnam (if Vietnam declared a national vegetable, it’d probably be this).Due to its colorful history marked with several occupations, colonization period and foreign influence, Vietnam is a real melting pot of various culinary traditions. From a complicated Chinese to a delicate Japanese, a bit over-spiced Thai, highly distinctive Cambodian, beautiful Indian and super gastronomic French - we are happy to report our tastebuds went on a delicious culinary adventure to Le Cyclo!"
