"as you might see from my profile, i live in Los Angeles, so this review is from the perspective of a regular visitor from the West Coast, USA. Speyer is my husband 's hometown, and where my in laws live, so we 've spent a lot of time in this town. Maximilianstrasse (the main drag down to the Dom has the bulk of the cafes, shops, etc., and Cafe Aran is at the very beginning, right by the Altportal. this is a lovely two story cafe that specializes in serving healthy fare so if you need a break from wurst and sauerkraut, this is your spot. they serve open face sandwiches on housemade bread, and the toppings range from all sorts of breakfasty bits (eggs, bacon, etc to lunchy items (shrimp, curry, tuna and artichoke... . it 's surprisingly filling, and reasonably priced.they take their coffee very, very seriously, but also have a fantastic tea selection. snacks, gelato, and of course a large selection of cakes are also available. ask for the free wifi password at the cashier, and then head upstairs by the windows for a great view of the Altportal and the busy pedestrians, or enjoy the sunshine (if there is any at one of the many tables outside on the plaza. you won 't be hassled to move on, and you can easily spend a pleasant morning or afternoon here."

If you have the chance to relax at the Aran located right next to the Altpoertel, the tower, you must eat their warm breads, try some of their awesome Tea variations and the cake after all.... Aran is a gourmet temple !!!

First of all, if you're in the area, definitely visit Speyer. Very cute town by the Rhein with a historic cathedral. Aran is next to the old gate of the city which offers a nice view. Modern inside. Staff are very friendly. They do speak English. I only wish they had a menu in English. Variety of breads and colorful dishes. Best tea and coffee.

My favorite brasserie in Speyer. The coffee and drinks are good and the open face sandwiches are fantastic. You can't go wrong with them. I particularly like the Serrano ham one. You can also get pastries and spreads for a sweeter fare. Ask for the wifi/wlan and they will give you a code for three hours of use. All that combined makes it pretty great. Visualizza piatti

usually we always go to Maximilian next to this coffee shop but last time we're not happy and someone told me I should try there. Here is nice and people's also nice. But you might be self service and I feel it was great. Atmosphere was friendly, easy going and comfortable , not so busy or loud likes another. If you are looking for chilling place, this restaurant would be another choice ^^

Firstly, don't miss visiting Speyer. It is such a quaint little German town. I was dropped at 8am and had the morning to wander the streets while my husband worked. I decided I wanted a coffee. I meandered into this shop, as it had a lovely street presence, tables, market umbrellas, and a crowd. What a find. I ordered a Cafe au lait and was not disappointed. It came in the quintessential European bowl with a lovely crema image on the top. There was food too and breads and parties. Just a lovely little find. And I can now say, two trips later, the best coffee I have had in Europe. Not to be missed.

One of the few places in Speyer with free WiFi. Yummy bread selection, as of yet no glutenfree options though. Lately they 've added lots of vegan dishes to the menu yeah and an amazing vegan breakfast! Good partly organic quality and coffee. A bit pricy but well worth it. I love the Grüne Wiese : bread with soy margarine, chive and a juice of your choice. Also available in winter if you ask for it as they take it off the menu in fall : Gotta ask for the WiFi code as well, which is good for 3 hours with a purchase. The spacious outdoor seating gets sun until the late afternoon with beautiful views of the historic Altpörtel. Lots of outlets available indoors to hook up your devices. Cheap all... We were touring Speyer and wanted to eat at a place we had tried before with great goulash soup, but it was unfortunately being remodeled. So we decided to try to first open place we found which was Aran cafe. What a great surprise! It is much larger inside than you would imagine, and on a Sunday afternoon, was completely packed with locals enjoying warm beverages and dessert. We decided to try the Baileys late and some dessert as well. I opted for the tiramisu and my wife for a slice of apple walnut cake. The late was excellent, made with very good fresh ground expresso and steamed milk. It was just the right thing to perk up on a cold dreary Feb sunday. Both desserts were also excellent. Th...

Speyer is my husband's hometown, and where my in-laws live, so we've spent a lot of time in this town. "I am not a pingelier visitor and certainly not sensitive, but that was one of the worst restaurant visits I have ever experienced. even if only of very short duration. we were on the way to 5 in speyer and 2 of us had the slemmer block. we had previously looked at what there are in speyer on restaurant options and then decided to la luna. that is the 2nd year that we use the block and so far it has always worked completely without any problems - even without a reservation. from the outside, the la luna made a very nice impression, if we were not sure whether it was made, because it is in the backyard and you only see a sushi shop from the front. when we entered the restaurant, the wed has stopped us with a hand held up and waited. We have, of course, also succeeded. Although this was not really full locally, he has pushed us two smaller tables together and left us outside beside the fountain. the terrace is okay, more but not. when the service came, the fun went off, and she handed us the menus. we told her that we had the slemmer block and tilted her mood. in the way they murmured something from 'they had to book with us before', as far as so good. 5 minutes later, he said that we were going to the table: "we don't take a slemmer block. they should have booked with us in advance. we don't take it off." we have also taken this, even though we were unable to understand the argumentation. He wants to be reserved - but not to say that you have the block - and if you come and have the block, it's okay. but not without reservation. he then left us alone to advise us. what we did. However, after 5 minutes he was right back and instead of letting it be good, he had to ride on the thema again. at this time we had decided to stay as a group and simply accept it. Finally we wanted to have a nice evening and it was only about 1 main dish. tja, who would then discuss that he could understand our opinion, but that that would be his, and that he would like to be consciously in his restaurant and not to "cheap". At some point, a discussion was created, because it became increasingly unofficial and had absolutely lost itself in the dead. he was not in a position to conduct a factual discussion and has also addressed us personally. we should've been studying decent, we could understand. he thinks only as a businessman and the slinger block is damaging to him, he only makes losses. that he has been there for 4 years, then had a light thread in taste. this year would be the last and they would stand out. After we were allowed to listen to other unharmed talks and we had no more pleasure to let ourselves be fooled by the side, we finally left. the complete local has got the situation and a table has even explicitly addressed us what would have been going on. in short form, they then got a summary. we have rarely felt uncomfortable in a local. worse still is that one is treated so from above only on the basis of a hammer block. the wet had to miss 150-200 euro this evening - quite contrary to his assumption, he would make losses and we would just eat cheap. it was only about approx. 10 euro, to a main dish. also: all 5 are fully employed and we were all dressed a little better because we knew we wanted to go away together. I can't evaluate it, but we'll never have a look at it again. very sad that you have to behave with your guests, and to judge them, the restaurant does not seem to be so badly visited because of the slinger block. the owner should think about whether it has not caused others. because with this kind he is driving the runnership. the senses of the slemmerblock is to visit new restaurants and to find new favourites. that has been so often gone and we have always been glad that we have been made aware of this locally. otherwise we would never have seen/seeded/tested. in the connection we have landed in the "flaming star" - without a slemmer block. And we had another super evening, which of course had its running gag. at least this had his good one."
