"I really want to give this cafe 5/5 because the staff are wonderful, the food is usually great, and the vegan options are varied and delicious. However, today, I ordered a vegan cheese toastie and my partner ordered dairy cheese toastie. These were served to us, vegan first and dairy second the waitress made it clear that the supposedly vegan one was served to me. But, I got halfway through mine before realising it was dairy cheese. I checked my partner’s sandwich to discover his was the vegan one. You can tell by the smell and texture, but I had been so hungry I’d wolfed it down without checking. The staff were really apologetic and refunded my order. I was relieved that they seemed to understand how upsetting it was for me. That afternoon, I had stomach cramps, vomited at work, and had to go home early. I hadn’t eaten dairy in years, so my stomach was really upset. Sadly, I can’t say I’m planning to revisit any time soon. Just really disappointed, it seemed like an honest mistake, but it’s the kind of error that can be easily avoided, and it’s made me very unwell. If I had an allergy rather than an intolerance, this could have been much worse. I won’t give up on the cafe, as any independent local which caters to vegans is worth supporting in my book, but due to this traumatic experience I will be giving it a wide birth for a while."

I had the vegan cheese and wobbly toastia, and the taste dwells in my mouth! I'd eat this sourded bread.

very enjoyed our experience of cafe etch. such a friendly and welcoming caffe with an excellent menu full of vegan options. we ordered the hotdog that came with coleslaw and salat and also shared a very refreshing mango, pineapple and banan smoothness. the hotdog was great and had such a great texture with a beautiful companion colony Slav. to finish our meal, we also ordered a disc when carrot cake and a sprinkled cake, as it would not be too rude! Both cakes were moist and extremely tasteful, the carrot cake especially delicious. in any case a place to visit when in boro.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience of Cafe Etch. Such a friendly and inviting cafe with an excellent menu full of vegan options. We each ordered the hotdog, which came with coleslaw and salad and also shared a very refreshing mango, pineapple and banana smoothie. The hotdog was superb and had such a great texture with a lovely accompanying coleslaw. To finish our meal we also ordered a slice if carrot cake and a sprinkled cake, as it would be rude not too! Both cakes were moist and extremely flavourful, the carrot cake especially yum yum. Definitely a place to visit when in the 'boro.

Cafe Etch offers a lovely atmosphere with ample seating, avoiding any feelings of being crowded unlike other establishments. However, the decor could use an update. The cafe's location in the city centre is very convenient. The staff is knowledgeable about veganism and provided fast service. I ordered the falafel and hummus toastie, which was tasty but a bit dry for my liking, causing me to not finish it. Other options included a vegan sausage bap and various hummus toast combinations. At £5 per toastie, I didn't feel the price was unreasonable. Overall, it is worth trying at least once, but some changes to the menu and dishes would be welcome.

My girlfriend and I were exploring Middlesbrough when we decided to try out this café that caught our eye. Initially, we thought it was closed, but there was a sign on the door stating that they closed it to retain heat. We were able to walk in without a reservation and noticed there were no paper menus on the tables, only a menu on a chalkboard near the counter. The customer service seemed a bit lacking, as if the server was having a rough day. Despite being quiet with plenty of available seats, there was a limited menu on the day we visited. I opted for a sausage sandwich while my girlfriend chose a falafel and hummus toastie. The food arrived promptly and looked appetizing. If you find yo...

"I’ve wanted to eat here since I moved north in November and it’ll be the first of many visits from now on. Our first time here with a table for 5 and all sharing meant we tasted a big section of the menu (see images of the menu). Each of the portions was very generous to say the least. What amazed us all we’re the complex flavour combinations. They were slightly weird on some but they all worked and very well too. Alkaline Nachos £10.95 Nachos with marinated baked quinoa, topped with refried beans, cashew sour cream, guacamole, pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage. All with a smoked cashew cheese drizzle over. They were indulgent, sweeter than I’ve had before and had tangy twist too. BBQ Tacos £9.50 Shredded carrot in an alkaline BBQ sauce in a crispy corn shell, filled with refried beans and guacamole. Topped with pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage, served with a side salad. Best BBQ tacos in the north so far. Thai Buddy Bowl £10.95 Orange teriyaki chickpea tofu surrounded by, pineapple 'fried ' quinoa, purple coleslaw, a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and quinoa falafels topped with mango chutney. Crazy flavours that worked really well. This was my favourite dish and I could eat this most days of the week. I’ll be back for this dish on its own. Thai Wrap £9.95 Quinoa and peanut butter falafels in a soft wrap with mango chutney, coleslaw and kimchi served with a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and pineapple quinoa. A mental combination of ingredients for a falafel but was amazing. Again, sweeter than I’d have imagined. Pink Pitaya Acai Bowl £5.50 A fruity smoothie bowl topped with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, banana kiwi and coconut (we held the seeds). What an amazing breakfast. A real power breakfast too. Immunity Boost Juice £4.00 (x2) Strawberry, pear, apple and lemon juice. Refreshing and moreish. Tropical Sunrise Smoothie £4.50 Papaya, mango, orange, banana, coconut, maple and cashew smoothie. It was as nice as you’d expect and none of the fruits lost their identity due to the power of another. Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie £4.50 Strawberries, banana, peanut butter, maple and lemon smoothie. Another one that doesn’t quite sound right but really does. The peanut butter was not overpowering and provided a nice earthy grainy taste and texture, lifted by the sweetness of the fruit. A great experience and worth the wait. Would I recommend Ohhhhhh Yes"
