"Was looking forward to our evenings dinner as had read the positive reviews. Sadly it was far from what I had expected. I take no pleasure in scoring such a low mark but when you end up walking out of a restaurant sadly 1 is all that you deserve. We had booked and on arrival were shown to a nice 2 table booth. The staff were pleasant enough especially the chap on duty. It took a few minutes to be handed a menu which was not really an issue but the restaurant was quite quiet. I ordered a beer and a bottle of Albariño. Then I was hoping we could order our food and it was at this point my wife and I started to have reservations. I was asked a 2nd time what beer I had ordered. Then we were approached and asked again what beer I had ordered and advised the wine might not be available and would,we order something else. So we were waiting to find out whether the wine was actually available but eventually ordered another wine. So far so unimpressive. Then I watched the staff wander about and no sign of the beer I ordered 10 minutes previously. My wife eventually turner and said if ordering drinks was such a challenge we had no confidence the rest of the evening would go at all smoothly. Reluctantly we got up and left. I am sure this restaurant has better days and the reviews would back that up but it was so disappointing. Ended going to a restaurant called Usquabae in the West End which was fantastic and service and food impeccable. So evening rescued but Ishmael need to up their game in terms of staffing and service."

We went on a Groupon deal. The food and the staff were exceptional. Not a pretty location but if you are in Edinburgh anyway it is a great place to eat and near Haymarket Station and its tram stop.

Food was bland and could have been a lot tastier with attention to seasoning and prep. Staff spent more time chatting behind the bar with little attention to the few occupied tables. Very disappointing

We went for a two course lunch for £15 each.The quality and service was excellent.The wine on offer was limited although their rose wines were not available,it did not spoil our well presented and enjoyable lunch.

This restaurant no longer exists. We booked a table online and got there to find it was gone, it is now a cocktail bar. The menu is available to view online, and it looks genuine. But is has long gone. Do not book,

Late evening drop in for a dinner for two to catch up with an old colleague. Even so the place was still busy and a good atmosphere. Caraway and carrot soup starter for me and then salmon with broccoli and orzo pasta. Both yum. Unobtrusive service, friendly staff all in all a fabulous meal. Thank you

Ate here recently on a groupon which was given as a gift, we were warmly welcomed as we entered the restaurant and were offered whatever table we wanted as the restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered soup and pulled pork rice balls and followed with burger and baked hake , the food was good and flavoursome , not sure if I’d rush back but wouldn’t dismiss returning in the future, a little gripe was that there wasn’t any alcohol free beer as I was driving I couldn’t drink alcohol, they stock harviestoun beer which have an excellent alcohol free beer , there are many others readily available in most restaurants.

Ishka is simply amazing! The cosy stylish environment, the beautiful cocktails and the perfect food really was a highlight of our Wedding!! We had a small wedding at the castle and had our wedding breakfast at Ishka for 32. Claire and her team went above and beyond to ensure that our day was perfect, setting up beautifully, helping to pick our own menu and even setting up our cake for us! We decided on a package were we were welcomed with Prosecco and then had a three course meal with tea and coffee after.
