"This is our go-to restaurant for family birthdays, Christening celebrations, anniversaries etc. A surprisingly chic, urban interior for a "Landgasthof" - country inn type place and excellent food. They offer a smaller portion of a main course which is the one to go for if you intend to eat a starter or a dessert (always too big in most German restaurants to eat a three course dinner) at a reduced price. My favourite is the lamb under a herby topping served with gratin potatoes and ratatouille. My son's favourite is the "Zwiebelrostbraten" - basically a steak under a mound of deep fried onion - that comes with "Spätzle", the soft German noodles made with lots of eggs and bacon-tied parcels of green runner beans. They have a varying seasonal menu and a good selection of standard choices so there is something for everyone - fish, poultry, lamb, beef, veal, pork and even a few vegetarian choices. I haven't eaten anything here that disappointed and we have been regular visitors for 20 years. We paid about 120 euros for five people eating mains, a couple of starters and including drinks (a bottle of wine, beers and soft drinks). On the main street running through Eggenstein after the protestant church. They now also have a nice courtyard at the back for summer dining. My only quibble - it seems to get really hot in the dining room - dress lightly!"

Depending on the quality of food and service, prices are absolutely appropriate. In the very nicely furnished guest room it can be comfortably seated and slammed. In the warmer months there is a beautiful garden that offers a great ambience for summer festivities. So, for example, if you want to go delicious food for the next birthday with family and friends, the Golden Anchor is superb.

We came here for my Onkel's 80th birthday for a mid-day meal. The food was excellent, even for myself and my partner who are vegetarian. They actually offered us 3 options. Everyone had four courses: fruit, salad, the entree and dessert. The presentation was very attractive without being showy. Service was top-notch, prompt, efficient and unobtrusive to the conversations. When we pulled up, we looked at each other and said, oh no, we are in for bland German food, but we were wrong. This was gourmet quality. Highly recommened.
