"It's impossible to disagree with some of the negative reviews of this extraordinary place, but for me it offered a strange magic very rarely found in the modern world. It felt like I'd been transported to the scene of a Scott Fitzgerald novel, and half expected unseen characters to materialise and give life to the place. Our room was huge and astonishingly grand, with views across the glorious grounds dominated by 300 year old cedars. We slept with the windows open and haven't heard such birdsong in decades. The new owners are Chinese and their influence works brilliantly in some areas, less so in others. The bar is gorgeous, with really clever use of oriental influence. Our room contained some beautiful Chinese furniture that worked surprisingly well alongside traditional French pieces. Our huge bathroom was light and cleverly worked, though the loo was in a separate cupboard-like room some distance away! Definitely quirky but quirks can be very refreshing in an era of American-influenced predictability. Yes, there are weeds in the gravel, but in a wildlife haven like this, I was rather pleased that nobody is using weedkiller. They could probably use a gardener but like many of these vast properties in the region, running costs are very high and the tourist season relatively short. It's privately owned, not run by a corporation, so prioritizing investment must be very tricky. In summary, our stay was one we'll remember, and I'd recommend it to anyone needing tranquillity and balm for the soul."

A former manor house with views of the river. Rooms are adequate but a bit tacky. Breakfast is OK. No restaurant service during our stay. No lift. Not recommended

Belle demeure de caractère mais prestations trop justes pour un 4*et c'est bien dommage! Réservation d'une chambre pour 3 et mise à disposition d'une chambre pour 2 1 chambre sous toit sans climatisation avec TV et lampe de chevet défectueuse... la piscine et le terrain de tennis mériteraient un bon coup rafraîchissement... mais son prix reste raisonnable.

trop peu de choix . service long et pour seulement 12 couverts pour un soir et 2 serveuses très aimables et agréables. déco de la terrasse à revoir : ca manque d'un petit rafraîchissement, la mousse sur les murets bof bof et on est très mal assis. la qualité des plats que l'on a pris par contre : très bien. mais tout le reste fait qu'aujourd'hui je ne recommande pas cet établissement. à voir si ça évolue dans les mois à venir je reste optimiste et positive.

Toujours déçu encore et toujours. Nous n'étions pas revenu depuis 3 ans et rien ou si peu ont été fait pour améliorer cet endroit, jadis si parfait. Le restaurant ne vaut plus rien. De gastronomique je lui préfère le titre de traditionnel élaboré. Autre chose encore veuillez éviter de demander à votre personnels de venir mettre de faux avis. C'est assez bas comme méthode. J'ai aussi un peu de mal à accepter les réponses que vous faite sur un ton véhément envers vos clients. Vous devriez plutôt apprendre de la critique et en tirer les leçons pour vous améliorer. Au lieu de ça vous vous permettez de remettre en questions les avis. Vous me permettez un conseil ? Changez de métier, l'hôtellerie...
