"Just a short walk from Denfert-Rocherau station lies rue Ernest Cresson, and at no 3 is "Le Mauritius" which is probably my favourite Mauritian restaurant south of the river. It's clean and smart, with rather more tasteful decor than usual, and the food is very good ("cuisine raffinée" it says on their card). I enjoyed a coco punch, a dish of mixed beignets, samosas, accra de morue, and so forth, followed by rougaille de poisson, rice and the obligatory beans, with a bottle of Phénix beer. The rougaille was very freshly made : you could taste the tomato and coriander, and the fish -- whatever it was -- was fresh too. I cleaned the plate so fast my charming waitress asked if I'd like some more rice, though sadly no more fish was on offer. Apart from some rather over ripe fresh mango, the choice of desserts was a bit limited, with only canned fruit, and the usual sorts of ice cream, but Mauritian cuisine is not known for its puddings. And this is one of those places which has a nice habit of offering you a glass of rhum arrangé on the house to compensate for the bill when it comes, though at only 25 euro for a 3 course menu this was entirely reasonable. I got there quite early on a Friday night, but by the time I left, around 9 pm, it was full of people, mostly local by the looks of things. I am amazed this place is not better known ... but let's keep it between ourselves for now, shall we?"
