"We left Paris in the early morning, by train, to travel to Clermont-Ferrand to meet friends for lunch. The train arrived just before one in the afternoon and we were whisked off to this out-of-the-way and unassuming looking Bistro name Le Saint Eutrope, in honor of the local church. Harry and Ally are the owners and run the place pretty much by themselves, she in the front and he in the back. The menu was posted on the dusty chalkboard out in front and again on another chalk board inside (see pictures). Inside the Bistro is as unassuming as the outside, except for the aromas coming from other patron’s food. We were kind of late and everyone else was finishing up and leaving so we had the place to ourselves. In the middle of the ceiling is a cute wire sculpture of a unicyclist and that is only the beginning. They have warmly decorated the walls with art and every horizontal surface is used for something related to food, making for a very informal and comfortable surroundings. For our first courses, I had the fresh carrot soup, while everyone else enjoyed braised leeks (Poireaux Gribiche). Both options were perfect and incredibly rich and flavorful, flavors that excited the taste buds. The second courses were either a fresh roasted whole local white fish with green beans, tomatoes and white beans, or roasted lamb with ratatouille. The fish was served simply and unadorned (see picture) and the color and fragrance of the side of fresh beans etc. set it off perfectly. The fish was excellently prepared and came apart with little effort. The steamy aroma the hit us as the skin was peeled away was stunning and I wondered if I had made the wrong choice with the lamb; no way… The lamb was thick slabs of pink heaven, sitting atop a perfect ratatouille. And trust me, those fragrances were over the top and I soon forgot the fish. The final course was peach melba, a plate of local cheeses, or a traditional crème caramel. I chose the latter, while one with the peach melba and two had the cheese. All were excellent and finished up the meal perfectly. The crème caramel was classic: moist, custardy heaven amid a pool of caramel sauce made for a complete happy finish in my stomach…The pictures say it all: Le Saint Eutrope was an incredible meal in a warm setting, prepared and served by wonderful people. This is a must for foodies and Clermont-Ferrand is worth your time as well. Since our fabulous meal there in September, this Bistro, was selected as the Best New Bistro in France for 2014…"

Love this restaurant and followed it to Clermont from its original incarnation in Chassignolles. Smaller now, it has lost none of it's dedication to serving generous portions of superbly cooked well sourced meat, locally grown vegetables and sourdough bread. The cheese board is regional and well chosen, the wines 'natural' and exceedingly good. Harry Lester has a second life in London where he co-owns with Raef Hodgson the wine bar and restaurant 40 Maltby St .

We visited on a Tuesday, @ noon. My wife began with house-cured jambon and fig, followed by pintade over white beans and champignons. I began with tempura-style baby courgettes, blossoms attached, followed by smoked haddock on a "bed" of long beans and potatoes, all draped with a perfectly prepared egg. We both finished with a fresh, skinless peach in sabayon sauce garnished with seasonal berries. Each preparation seemed to perfectly enhance the very high quality of the ingredients.

This is a superb bistro slightly off the beaten path in C-F. And very much worth looking for. The food is always imaginative and impeccably prepared and it has an interesting wine list. Le St. Eutrope has recently been awarded a palmarès 2015 by Le guide Fooding as one of the best bistros in France.Early in September a group of us had a terrific lunch there: delicious starter of poireaux au sauce gribiche followed by an even better lapin au sauce moutarde (the sauce was divine). And my husband and I enjoyed another excellent lunch in early November.

we have booked this restaurant online after reading the reviews. it is a bit off the beaten track, but easy to find. I don't think that I have understood the concept until we had our meal. the idea, we later found out, is to have what court they want, like tapas style, so they could have two “Starter” dishes instead of a starter and a main and in hint, I think we would have preferred it. the food was imaginatiw and offered something different than the usual French fayre. had a little effort to win the attention of the staff at a few locations, but overall an interesting experience.

Slightly outside the city center, Le Saint Eutrope surely deserves the extra walk to reach the welcoming little restaurant that proposes traditional dishes improved by a touch of creativity and incredibly fresh products. We stopped in Clermont Ferrand on our way further south and enjoyed this gastronomic stop. On the day menu: moules au vin, vitello tonnato and swordfish cooked with a savory sauce of Provençal herbs. Everything was cooked to perfection and even my picky eaters loved it! A homemade destructured Bavaroise with red berries made our day.Customers were a mix of locals and foodies and the service was friendly and attentive at the same time. Excellent price quality ratio. We won't h...

This small bistro has been tastefully refurbished and is now run by a couple with years of experience running an Auberge (search for Chassignolles). We were told they moved to town for schooling reasons. The daily changing blackboard menu suggests standard bistro fayre, but it is freshness and attention to detail that makes what arrives on your plate stand out. A chicken terrine was moist with a deep taste of chicken; "fish soup" was actually a langoustine, mussels and skate in a seafood broth. The almond and cherry tart had been baked that morning.Inexpensive wines by the glass, but don't overlook the outstanding fairly priced regional wine list. With less than 30 covers book to avoid disappo...

One of our favorites, Le Saint Eutrope is very difficult to beat. I began w/ Terrine de Cochon Noir accompanied by a lightly pickled cherry and rhubarb sauce. The flavors swirled so magnificently on the palate! My wife'sTian Pessé w/ pesto was a veggie-lover's delight; alternating eggplant, red-peppers, and zucchini layers and the pesto sauce. After a nice pause, during which we nibbled on crusty bread and sipped wine, our mains arrived. The pintade was plated with golden roasted potatoes and aioli. My thon blanc, was such a generous portion that I barely tasted my wife's selection. The tuna was roasted crispy with a near rare center, perfect, IMO! Accompanied by haricots verts, tender beans...
