The Bird In Hand Country Inn

My family had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this large pub. It was a great place to enjoy a Sunday Roast with plenty of space. The service was excellent, the car park was spacious, and the food was delicious. I have no complaints about my experience or the entire visit.

The room we were allocated was lovely, couldn't fault it, there is a nice outside area for a drink, dinner was fine but the herb crusted cod had too much herbs on it for me. Breakfast was ok but my husband had to ask for a replacement egg as his was seriously over cooked. Over all a good stay

Stayed overnight after spending time with family at Legoland which isn't too far away (10ish miles) before venturing further South into Dorset. Really friendly team, great easy check in and check out. Lovely room and nice, home cooked breakfast! Would highly recommend for a stopover, would have loved to spend some time in their hidden beer garden out the back.

I was very impressed with how management dealt with out original complaint about a previous visit. My family were invited back for another Sunday lunch entirely complimentary on the house. The service was superb and the food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and all of us enjoyed the food that we got on this visit. Happy to tell our family and friends how well customer service was taken by this team and how enjoyable the food was. Thank you to all the team on Sunday in particular Becky and Zoe. It made our 35th anniversary celebration really special.

We booked for 11 a family group and sat down at 8pm. We ordered and those that had starters received them almost 60 min later. The main courses arrived at 9:40 pm and apart from the fish chips, the rest were one worse than the other. Sweetcorn gnocchi probably made most Italian grandmas roll in their graves! The burgers were tough, overcooked and the buns were like biscuits. The chicken thighs dish was so sad with only 2 tiny bits of meat and 4 inedible charred chorizo sausages. We should have realised it was a bad evening when the first beer arrived and it was sour. Gordon Ramsey would have closed the kitchen down.

I am saddened to write this review after many years of enjoying delicious Sunday lunches at this restaurant. However, today's meal was extremely disappointing. The food was cold and of poor quality, both for vegetarians and meat eaters. The previous chef was exceptional and had surpassed the only other good Sunday dinner option in town - ours! I urge the restaurant to hire a new chef and bring back the crispy roast potatoes, carrot puree, lean roast beef, veggie Pithivier, maple roasted parsnips, and proper gravy. The meal should be served hot, not lukewarm. Despite previously enjoying many satisfying Sunday dinners here, we will not return until the quality improves. What a shame!

Today we had a family lunch for 8no persons. Food took an hour to arrive when it did 2no pork dishes were inedible and were sent back. The remaining Sunday roasts we had with the exception of the vegetarian dish was at best pathetic. Little or no vegetables sloppy. Yuk. The beef portions were very small to the point that they should not be on the plate. Roast potatoes were tasteless and hard. The overall food was probably microwaved. We ordered dessert which again was slop. The ice cream was melted, the strawberry dish just gew. Drinks very expensive. The Bird in Hand is a lovely place to stay, somewhere to enjoy both dinner in the evening and Sunday lunch too! We stayed 2 nights and held our Golden Wedding celebration in their beautiful function room, as this was our wedding reception venue 50 years ago! We also had a large table for a family dinner the evening before our party and this meal was delicious and beautifully presented by courteous, friendly staff. Our suite was absolutely beautiful. Furnishings were gorgeous, bed was comfy, complementaries and minibar items were really good. Bath and shower were fantastic Had a great nights sleep. The front of staff however let the hotel down. Totally disinterested, sarcastic, cold, unhelpful and actually plain rude. We waited 50 minutes for a ‘soft brioche bacon bun’ this morning (see photo) The woman that served it banged the plates down hard on the table and walked off. The bun was totally inedible and rates as the worst breakfast I have ever been served.
