"I don't know where to begin! We had made a reservation and arrived a bit early, but were seated right away. After taking a look at the menu, our drink orders were promptly taken and delivered. We then placed our food order and the starters arrived quickly and were delicious. I had the homemade pate which was tasty, while my partner enjoyed the black pudding deep-fried in beer batter with mustard mayo. We didn't have to wait long for our mains, and they were cooked perfectly. My medium rare filet steak was juicy and tender, and the portion size was generous. My partner's homemade burger was huge and cooked to perfection. Even the children's meals (gammon and Lorna curry) were adult-sized portions. We were too full for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been just as good. All in all, the meal, including drinks, was great value for money."

Just had a fabulous lunch with friendly professional service, large meals (you'd better be hungry) made of delicious fresh food. Lovely village location by a little river.

A VERY well kept inn with a welcoming fire. Service very good, any meal is extremely well presented and appertising. Good selection of Robinson's ales, and a coffee that is worth a visit on it's own. Chips that you would die for Chunky and Cooked...with TLC.

I had another excellent meal at The Black Lion, with fantastic service from the front of the house staff, especially Phil. I particularly loved the new starter of black pudding and liver pate. I ordered my usual filet steak and my daughter had the lamb shank, both were delicious. We were too full for dessert, but a complimentary apple crumble was brought to our table. The half bottles of Malbec were a perfect pairing with our meal. Visualizza piatti

Great welcome friendly service. Lots of choice on the menu all looked amazing! Beautifully presented food, plentiful and very delicious. Locally sourced burgers were very tasty and the sea bass cooked to perfection. Wednesday happy hour was a bonus. We had to ask...twice for condiments and the bill was slow to arrive, but the bar and restaurant were busy. Nice atmosphere, although Phil Collins on repeat did make our teenage sons bemused.

Trash, ordered soup came out in a bread bowl and was so thick u could eat it with a folk (that was a first) and the bread was so hard it wasn’t edible. Then I ordered lamb chops and was served lamb chop that...was obviously frozen it was so tuff and a million potatoes. The green beans where cooked so much they tasted like water. Wine was good and needed lol and venue was ok. Just ok! I had a funny feeling when I can in and looked like a burger pub. Tbf the burgers looked great too. But any traditional food forget it!

Staff where excellent and the ambience but that’s where it ended. The food was below average in particular the “Rack of Lamb” served as individual chops and where tough. The owner replied defending the individual chops. I could go on about the quality of the...whole meal but I would bore you and myself. I’ve written to the owner in a positive manner and have not requested nor want any concessions. Unfortunately I’ve found his responses extremely defensive and unprofessional. Feedback should be welcomed In summary, this is a respected establishment locally however, better you draw your own conclusions. Visualizza piatti

I booked a Sunday dinner for Mother's Day at this restaurant. The atmosphere was nice and I had high hopes of returning in the future. However, we encountered some issues with the service. Our starters did not arrive, and we had to search for a waiter to inform them that they were missing. When the starters finally arrived, they were all cold. The main courses were served and were decent. When it came time for dessert, we once again had to search for a waitress. Some of the desserts, like the sunflowers, did not look like the pictures as the creamy topping had melted away. Overall, the service was slow and inefficient, and we ended up spending hours at the restaurant. I was disappointed with...

First time visiting the black lion with my partner. From the minute we arrived we was greeted with a warm welcome from John. To say the least nothing asked was a problem, always there to make us feel welcome. Our room in “Elwy” was beautiful,...top standard of cleanliness. The food was outstanding, since becoming a vegetarian a few months ago it is always a worry for flavourful food in restaurants…could not fault any of the food here everything we had eaten was full of flavour and all so moreish, hats of to the chef! Every question asked was answered and very informative in regards to the source of food and how it is prepared and cooked. The staff are absolutely amazing! Overall cannot fault...

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
