"I was slightly disappointed by what they had on the menu the day we went. My first visit previously had scored wonderful langoustines not available that day), plump, juicy mussels- absent : There were no scallops nor lobsters as trailed in their wonderful cookbook, On the bright side, their fried haddock wrap was delicious, as before, and we couldn’t believe that Cullen Skink could be as tasty as theirs. A queue of some 10 parties formed 30min before they opened at noon, on a rainy, windswept day! I don’t know many restaurants as popular as this!"

"This is a very disappointing experience. I had booked a room last year through booking.com, but had to postpone my stay to May 26 due to the coronavirus pandemic. I had received confirmation that the change had been agreed upon. However, when I arrived at the hotel today after traveling from Newcastle, I found that it was closed as indicated on their website. With nowhere else to stay on Ascension Day, I was lucky to finally find a room at the Royal Hotel with the help of the Caladonian Hotel. My advice is to avoid booking at this hotel. On the plus side, at least we didn't have to spend the night in our car."

"we were thrilled by this bar restaurant that looked over the sea in ullapool. I tried to start the oysters and they were perfect. I would just go back for it! the desserts were delicious, although at £ 8.00 maybe a little expensive and there was a lot of choice. my friends were happy with their head. a hugging bowl and a hit salmon salad. I chose the makrelensalat, but was disappointed. too many carrots, not enough makrele. although it was delicious enough. at over £30 per person, including drinks, it was a pleasant meal. would recommend."

"We were advised this restaurant/hotel is under new ownership. We were only visiting for food. We managed to get a table on arrival. It's a very average environment and service is poor sadly. Only one girl working the bar. There's no table service which isn't a problem. However things need improved this being the case. The menu didn't have a lot of choice really. No fish other than scampie in a fishing village, no macaroni etc. The chilli was served with indian yellow basmati rice which was absolutely bizarre, it should be serve with white long grain rice. We ordered scampie and a steak pie. Scampie was £13.50 and Steak pie more. Portions were very small for that price, hardly any chips at all. I'm not a big eater and was still hungry after I finished mine which never happens. Food tasted nice, no complaints at all re the flavor and quality of cooking. Another annoying problem was the lack of service/common sense. We, along with other tables were served our food, however no cutlery or salt n pepper etc on the table. We had to wait for cutlery to be brought AFTER we received our food. We asked for salt, vinegar and ketchup. We were given 2 TINY satchets of salt"

"The most expensive of our seven stays on the NC500 and the only one that did not offer a FULL BREAKFAST but a continental breakfast. Do not get confused with the continental breakfast you might get in Europe when on holiday, this consisted of processed ham and cheese, not dissimilar to that you might by in a packet from a supermarket. Orange juice was not fresh. On the plus side, the tea was hot. Our room overlooked the unkept smoking area with ashtrays not emptied for days and rubbish left all over the area. For the price. It felt like we were a captive audience with little regard for our pleasure or enjoyment. Sadly in western Scotland, alternatives are extremely limited."
