"My husband and I went to The Ship Inn for Sunday lunch on September 3rd. We both ordered the roast Angus beef with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and mixed vegetables, including roasted parsnip. The beef was so tender that we didn't even need a steak knife. The staff accommodated my request for a low-fat meal due to my gallstones by leaving out the rich white sauce. The only thing I would change if I were the chef is to not place the meat on top of the roast potatoes, as it made them less crispy. Despite that, the potatoes were still delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was a highlight, puffed up and perfect. Overall, we enjoy dining at The Ship Inn and appreciate their variety of wines, gins, and beers."

Great pub. Welcoming, lovely atmosphere and a good lunch. There was something for the whole family despite different preferences and tastes.

Food was great, service was charming, but SO SLOW! Lunch took over 2 hours, which was fine as we weren't in any hurry, but that was for just 2 courses including cold desserts. Steak was amazing.

This pub is a great spot for watching football, with plenty of screens and a separate area for those who are not interested in the game. They offer a good variety of beers on tap and also have a spacious decked area out back for smokers.

I ordered the polenta cake with corn, charred broccoli, and pistachio salad, while my partner opted for the pork and plum sausages. Our server, Jack, provided excellent service. My partner thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and mine was also delicious.

We went to the Ship to celebrate my retirement, so had drinks with family friend. They provided us with the best space for our evening also had some plates of hot chips dipping sauces which everyone enjoyed. Thanks to all the staff at the Ship for looking after us. It made our evening very special.

I have dined at this restaurant before and the food was excellent. However, my husband's dish (fish and chips) was not up to par, while my roast beef was okay but could have used more gravy. I had to ask twice before receiving any, which was disappointing. The staff, on the other hand, were delightful and very friendly.

Very nice staff and property revamp very nice. However, the food is over cooked but turns up cold. Not worth the money. Poor ingredients and inconsistent. Lacking fully trained staff but they were nice. A tad more training, sourcing better ingredients (burger taste like a frozen burger with high mark up and no side). Chef needs to up their game. This could be a really nice eatery.

We were a group of six for dinner. The staff were helpful, even cleaning up a broken glass on the sidewalk outside, but seemed overwhelmed by their small ordering devices. The food was a mix - the fish and chips were good, but the Caesar salad was very mediocre with large, tasteless chunks of chicken. The sorbet was lumpy, but the Eton mess was decent. The pea soup was not well seasoned, and the mackerel pate was not smooth, with a significant chunk of solid fat making it unappetizing. Overall, the menu was rather dull.

The pub has a nice appearance, but all the tables were dirty and there were cigarette ends scattered everywhere. The drinks were very expensive, with a pint of Peroni costing £6.75 and an undrinkable pornstar martini cocktail priced at £14.75, which I had to send back and ultimately leave. It seems like they don't know how to make cocktails and are just making up prices based on appearances. I wouldn't recommend this place; although I don't mind paying the price for quality, I believe that Wetherspoons down the road is probably cleaner and serves better cocktails. This may not be a popular opinion, but I'm just stating the facts - this place is one to avoid.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
