"that will be my local when I stay in york. they have a large selection of well kept ales and as heritage pub have retained the attractive decoration of the art deco style interieurs. unusually furnished with a corridor with mainable and two rooms each side serving doors. personal always knowledgeable and friendly, with nice chatting local to laugh. the latest visits (13/6/22) show that they still have a good selection of well kept Cask-Ales and are open at 2 o'clock so that a handcrafted pint is available before the chip shop opens by 4 o'clock. the garden area is quite large and the winery growing under the perspex roof makes it more attractive"

we had read good reviews of the black swan before we came to york. we were not disappointed. the atmosphere of this year's free house transports one.

the black **** is a very cool century house that has been transformed into a pub and a gas house you really get a feeling of history here it is supposed to be.

Charming local pub with a lot of character. They offer real ales, a small beer garden, and comfortable rooms. The best part is that it's conveniently located just off the City Walls in York, yet feels secluded from the tourist crowds.

This is a traditional pub in every sense of this description. Such a pleasure to see a wide selection of beers and drinks available, cut-off rooms, no food offered, no music, pure packed with people and their dogs with a conversation.... such a joy. Very recommended place

A nice surprise. Looks a bit tired from the outside, but as soon as you get in there is an immediate change in the atmosphere. Very well maintained beers and an enormous selection plus ciders. I remembered my locals when I was younger. We sat in the garden and met very friendly people and their crazy dogs... and that was just at noon.
