The Western Club Restaurant

Despite having been highly recommended, the standard and choice of food was disappointing, service poor and there was no atmosphere. Unfortunately, a disappointing experience.

As a member of an affiliated Club to the Western, I occasionally stay overnight. The food at the restaurant was exceptionally good. I had the set lunch menu was very impressed.

This booking was to celebrate my husband's 61st birthday but no attempt was made to recognise this. I have eaten in the Western Club several times and have bought vouchers for a few family members as gifts but after this most recent visit I will not return.

We booked the table for 4pm but were told on arrival that only the a la carte menu was available as the 2 courses for £20 was only till 3pm on a sat. This is not the information that is on the website. Food was lovely but we weren't expecting our bill to be over £100

As always delicious food and great service in beautiful surroundings. Our lunch was wonderful (although some might think £95 for a lunch for two is rather expensive). I chose the market fish of the day plaice. It was cooked to perfection. One minor issue: I think the mains should include sides whereas they have to be ordered and are charged separately.

Food was very nice although there was not a lot of it. Had to ask for the market menu as the standard a la carté menu was all that was presented..... hmmmm? Surroundings were lovely as was the service. I was slightly disappointed by the choice on market menu but the standard was very high. Can’t help but think this place would be more successful if it was less stuffy. Having to traipse 2 floors to get to the bathroom is also a chore albeit there is a lift. Overall, good but could be better.

Could not fault the food. In general the place did not exude much charm. The waiting staff were very attentive. You have to ring the doorbell to enter and concierge staff ‘welcomes’ you..the welcome was most definitely cold and uninviting, perhaps being a family this was not the clientele they expect on a Saturday evening, my presumption. We were not asked for coats until we were seated and perhaps by standing at table to remove coat, staff were prompted into action. All the glitz did not impress me.

The restaurant itself was lovely and the food was excellent, unfortunately the service we received from our server left us with a distasteful experience. Perhaps she was having an off day or perhaps she was new, regardless this server is the reason we would never recommend this restaurant. I will not go into the details here as the whole evening when we look back on it borders on the strange and unusual, but if the management wishes they may send a private note, to which a detailed account of our horrific evening can be relayed.

Have always enjoyed Western Club but disappointed on this occasion and would not therefore recommend it any longer. Food which is normally exceptional was very mediocre. Only one kind of bread in the bread basket and one small slice per person. On requesting more bread our server brought the basket with exactly five small slices of the same bread, one per person. Portions of main meal seemed smaller than usual. All in all the impression given was cutting back on food although servers were still very pleasant. Restaurant was much less busy than usual
