"This is an old pub next to the harbour with a good history. We had a very nice dinner . I had scampi and my wife had a sirloin steak both served with the ubiquitous chips and veg. Nice clean pub and quick service. Can be difficult to prebook especially if they have a function in the back lounge but worth the effort"

"We ate here twice on our Easter weekend break. Once for breakfast and once for dinner on Good Friday. On the breakfast morning we waited a long time for 2 x beans on toast, a small Scottish breakfast, 2 x breakfast rolls. The restaurant was not busy so it appeared that the delay was down to kitchen inefficiencies. The beans were at best stingy. One small pot that didn’t cover one slice of the two pieces of given. As owners we received a 10% discount but the bill still came to £33 with one drink each being consumed. When we went in the evening, the restaurant was a little busier but not at full capacity and again we waited just over 35 minutes for our food (we only ordered main courses). No-one came at any point to explain any delay. I was just about to enquire when the food arrived. When looking at the menu I noticed that the prices have soared from what they used to be. £14.95 for Steak pie, you have to pay £5.00 extra for prawns in the curry and you only receive four prawns, which seems a bit steep. The portion size was fine except on the curry for what was paid. My eldest daughter’s meal did not arrive with our food, so we waited a further five minutes still nothing so my husband went to enquire and the waiter apologised and said it would be along shortly. It arrived just over five minutes later. So by the time she had received her food ten minutes after our food was served we were nearly finished. We did not order puddings due to the delay and although we had one soft drink each (5 drinks in total) the bill came to just over £80 pounds. To be honest for an eatery at a caravan park this seems very high and much more expensive than it used to be. I’m not surprised that it was so quiet as by venturing the short distance into Dunoon you will get a cheaper meal of similar quality."

"Not going to lie felt like a pop up shop. 4 of us which was fine. But 6 came in and there was no way could a 4 and a 2 sit separate. It was like 2 of you just can’t sit here ans half full a table and eat! No alcohol license but the pub next door allows you to buy and take it in? Not sure how legal that is? Or pop to the co op and bring your own. Told this twice! Which granted is a good thing. I wasn’t told that the last time I tried to order wine. Satay came mixed in the sauce and very spicy. Chow mein was nice and fresh. Fried rice looked good. Chips usual Chinese style. Very quick too. Waitress was really attentive if slightly rushed. Must be 30 people sittings in total plus take away and they deliver. Bill 2 separate families clearly too. Told bill was full total and can’t pay separate as don’t have time to add it, we should have said at the start. Don’t have time to faff with doing it as they would get a row and they don’t want that? I’m all for good chat with the staff but being told they can’t separate a bill as it will cause a “row” isn’t what I want to hear."

The Goil Inn

"We recently visited The Goil Inn restaurant whilst on a short break to Lochgoilhead. It was a short 10 minute walk from the nearby holiday park we were staying at. Beautiful location with lovely views. There were 4 of us and we had lunch there 2 days in a row. On arrival we were greeted by the very welcoming staff, our server was Ian on both days and he was very attentive and service was second to none. Between us we ordered 2 haggis bon bons and soup, followed by the pie of the day (which was lamb and veg) x 2 with chips and veg, steak ciabatta and chicken bacon ranch ciabatta both served with crisps but we ordered fries with it as well. A side of pigs in blankets, and 2 of us then had the vanilla cheesecake for dessert and 3/4 rounds of drinks. The portions were very generous. The next day we went down for the Sunday roast which was a choice of beef or gammon, served with a yorkshire pudding, veg and potatoes. The quality of the food on both days was very high and cooked to perfection. Would recommend the Goil Inn restaurant to anyone coming to the area as you will not be disappointed."

"My wife and I had dinner here one evening during our visit to Loch Awe, and also lunch on a couple of occasions. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, especially the young Scottish guy, the Australian girl, and our waitress at dinner apologies for not knowing your names, but thanks for the great service we received. As for the food, we couldn’t fault it at all. The dinner we had was one of the best meals we have eaten in any restaurant. My wife ordered the Balmoral Chicken, and I had the Sea Bass. I forget what we had to start, but both courses were delicious. As was the Panna Cotta I had for dessert. The food was piping hot and we weren’t left waiting for ages between the generous courses. Prices were about what you would expect to pay in a hotel restaurant. We didn’t stay in the hotel or lodges as we had rented a cottage nearby, so I can’t comment on the accommodation, but I would certainly recommend the restaurant and we look forward to eating there again on our next trip to the area."

"My husband I have had several lunches dinners here. There is outdoor seating for warm, sunny days a lovely restaurant with huge windows looking towards the sea. The food is great. We’ve tried the soups, baked potatoes, sandwiches baking at lunch. At dinner we’ve had the fish chips, sea bream, trout, scallops, the burger, the chicken dish the vegetarian pasta. Every meal has been excellent- and the local honey ice cream is homemade a real treat. The staff are all locals the owner Gavin is lovely. The homemade empire biscuits are the best I’ve ever had! This seems to be the heart of the island, it’s where you find good food at decent prices the locals seems to hang out there too. It’s brilliant to support a local family business when travelling to an island. Would 100% recommend."

"Stopped for takeaway breakfast rolls on our way home from a week staying near Campbeltown, what a lovely wee place, nice decor, lovely staff, really lovely older man working there, best breakfast rolls ever, delicious, hot, perfectly cooked. Wish we had tried it earlier in the week because everywhere else we ate was rubbish, avoid the Home Wok, worst Chinese ever, they don't even know how to make chicken fried rice"

"The Ruby has played a very big part in my life. I have been many, many times over the years and have never been disappointed. On the night I proposed to my wife we went to the Ruby for dinner, on our 10th wedding anniversary we went again and we were presented with a beautiful plated display, and we were back on our 20th wedding anniversary recently and again were presented with another beautiful plated display! The staff as always were very friendly and even as the restaurant began to get busy they still found the time to chat with diners, this is the way restaurants should operate, so well done and thank you for making my wife and I's anniversaries special."

"My mother and I came to visit Tobermory and for our last evening there we went for a meal at MacGochans. Without sounding too presumptuous, I had THE best fish and chips I have had in a LONG time. The batter was incredibly thin, light and crispy throughout (which is incredibly rare to find , and the quality of the fish was outstanding. I had the special-of-the-day soup for starters (sweet potato soup , which was equally exquisite. We were sat upstairs, with a wonderful view of the harbour, and the atmosphere and service were really nice. I strongly recommend this wonderful restaurant. (Apologies, no photos to share as by the time I had devoured it all the plates were empty! ."

"The location is amazing but the tea room is the only place serving food and drinks for miles. We waited at least 40 minutes for our baked potatoes to arrive, I think they maybe went to pick them up first... I asked to take my food outside as the restaurant was hot and stuffy not sure if the windows were open) and they complained that swapping plates for takeaway boxes increased the wait. The food was bland. A bad experience overall. I think someone should set up food trucks in the car park and serve some healthy and tasty food and coffees. Bute is a beautiful island. The people are lovely, but the food and service are not up to scratch!"

"I have eaten at this restaurant before and had no complaints about the soup. However, during my recent visit, I was disappointed. I sat next to a couple who were not happy with their sandwiches as they were dry and lacked butter. They also mentioned that there was no salad cream available, which was surprising as there is likely a supermarket nearby. One major concern for me was that the restaurant allows dogs, which is fine, but the staff should not be touching them. I witnessed a server petting a dog and not washing her hands before handling customers' food. This is not hygienic and the owners should address this issue. I am unlikely to return as I prefer to eat in a clean and sanitary environment."

"Now called Cafe Bella. Don’t often write poor reviews but this is definitely needed. We had fish and chips and it was the worst we have had in a long time! The batter was soft, oily and poor. After having fish and chips three times in the last week this was the worst. Husband said his was okay and as I tried to tell the manager he walked away which is just rude, although the owner thinks this is not, as he didn’t say anything bad! Charged 16 pound for soggy fish. The soft drink included isn’t any soft drink either it’s just one of the draughts although it doesn’t state this in the offer. Poor fish, flat coke and poor management."

"We came here to eat whilst holidaying nearby. Unfortunately, we were incredibly disappointed with our experience. It's important to note that the bar and service staff were incredibly friendly and can't be faulted. However, the food we received should not be served to paying customers and should definitely not be considered as pub/restaurant standard food. It was quite evident that everything on all of our plates was frozen and nothing was homemade. The burger was half the size of the cheap bun it was served on. It came with no sauce or salad inside, was incredibly dry and included a measly ration of bacon that may as well have not been there along with some frozen, tasteless chips. The fish and chips (also terrible) claimed to come with tartare sauce whilst not completely false, the tartare sauce was already on the table in small, service station packets along with the packaged mustard and ketchup (not worthy of a mention on the menu). It was so astoundingly bad, a 10 year old could have put the meals together. We were seated in a very dim, dreary and dated looking room which didn't better the experience. Local ales were also advertised but not available. Again to reiterate, the staff were lovely. However, we will not be returning and would absolutely not recommend eating here."

"We have been many, many times to this Taj Mahal. Not been for a wee while, what a disappointment. Decor and setting is lovely, clean , tidy and inviting. Staff were very pleasant too, although there was a bit on a language barrier. Now the food… Starters of mixed pakora platter with lemon pepper mayonnaise sauce was nice, enough to share. I’ll break down the main meals here Tandoori Chicken on the bone: NO sauce would be served as it usually is. Trying to explain that there should be a Lentil Sauce fell on deaf ears. A sauce was suggested by the Waiter, however this did not complement the meal. The chicken certainly appeared to never been in a Tandoor oven EVER. It lacked taste and disappointment in general. Launguage problem again, so rice and sauce were charged separately. Coconut Nann Bread, certainly had coconut. When we pulled a piece off, yellow dry coconut flew everywhere. Also gave the appearance of never been insisted. Tandoor Oven. Chicken Tikka Masala. The chicken had been on a skewer but at risk of repeating myself, this I would dispute if it had seen the inside of a Tandoor. The sauce was deep burgundy, no cream or almonds to at least make it look appetising. Drinks. No Draught Beers/Lagers. The lager from a can was flat. Rum coke. Can’t go wrong there. All in all this was not a nice experience and paying over £60 , we were robbed. On a positive note, the young waiter was attentive, pleasant and tried to help with menu. What a shame he has a poor grasp of English/ Scottish language."

"Being the only Indian restaurant in area, they seem to think service and quality doesn’t matter.Popped in for a dinner, kinda wish I hadn’t as we went in, it took quite a while for any one to come over , because the staff were busy chatting and texting on phones.Eventually we were greeted with a grunt no smile, and directed if you can call it directed to a table it was a point , with out even looking at us.The food when it eventually came out appeared to have been microwaved as it was hot on out side but cold inside, the sauce was bubbling around edges of dish but Luke warm every where else."

"Restaurant and front of house spotlessly clean. The place for fish n chips in Rothesay. We sat in and enjoyed really friendly and fast service. The fish portion very generous and fresh, perfectly crunchy batter. Chips crisp 'n dry, with minted mushy peas. Highly recommend fried steak pie. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. A wait of 5 minutes to have roasting hot fish and chips is 5 minutes well spent!"

"exceptional stay, we expected a stylish environment and eat and we found substance and style. the greeting was warm and friendly, we were shown in our room and given a tour. the room has a record player and the hotel has a fun selection of dates to choose from. the rooms are beautiful and had everything they need when they are excited. the bathroom door is glass and we had to use a deck against it to use the bathroom in the private sphere that I wanted to take a star away, but the truth is that it has taken nothing from the pleasure of our visit. the eating was delicious, we ate there for two dinners, sat in the bar side, because we had a dog and the service was slow, but again it felt more relaxed and in such a beautiful environment they cannot complain. the breakfast was very beautiful, continental, that is consistent and quality. I will definitely book again!"

"We would gladly give The Ninth Wave out of Stars if we could In I was looking for a restaurant to give my wife the best meal of her life for her birthday. And while we had to wait for her birthday due to the pandemic, The Ninth Wave did not let us down. We had the special treat of Johnny as part of the wait staff, because he allowed one of his staff to go on vacation to Iceland during the season! Catriona was delightful as his co-server, always taking time to remind us of what we had chosen for each course. And you cannot say enough about the magic that Carla and her co-chef George worked with the fresh produce from Johnny's garden and the sea Incredible people, incredible food. You will not be disappointed, you will be awestruck!"

"Stopped in for wee treat after playing crazy golf after my parents stopped in earlier on and was not disappointed with cakes and hot drinks, both children got drink and ice cream. We stopped in towards end of day but did not feel like a nuisance and were going to allow us to sit at the 2 x 2 seat tables before a couple of ladies got up to make way for us after being swiftly sanitised. Reasonably priced and the hot meals being served around us smelled amazing. Decided when popped back into Dunoon later on in week that we would have lunch and so glad we did the chips were main reason for coming back and so glad we did. Will more than likely stop here again if ever in Dunoon."

"Unfortunately the cafe was very busy so service took a while and they had run out of all bread so Soup and Stokies were out for us. They did offer a large plate salad with the stokie topping which wasn’t to our taste. So we ordered some cake each, I can honestly say it was by far the best Carrot cake we have ever had, we’re left glad that they didn’t have the stokies as we wouldn’t have had the delight of that cake and a good pot of tea."
