"We have been to Benalmadena many times before, but somehow never tried this restaurant. It only has 40 reviews, and most of them in spanish only 4 in english. It is to the right when you enter the Marina from the Aquarium end, so probably most visitors will not know it is there. On a very hot Sunday lunchtime, around 1.15pm, we asked for a table where there was breeze, and suggested the remaining 1 of 4 tables along the front edge of the room sized awning, close to the water. Those were the only 3 tables in the restaurant that were occupied. The man, who seemed to be the owner (perhaps Juan? , said that the front table was reserved, but that we could sit in the third row, in the middle, which was laid for 2. He very thoughtfully brought us each a paper fan, when he returned with the water we had ordered. (1 litre for 3 euros, pricey, but this is the marina. We ordered the rice dish of Arroz con Tropezones (Almejas, Mejillones, Rosada, Calamaritos, Gambas, Calamares Champignones y Cigalas , priced at 15 euros per person and 2 glasses of white wine (2.50 euros each . After 20 minutes, 2 little hot rolls were brought to the table. So delicious, I found it difficult to reserve a piece to use as a 'pusher ' for my rice! (They were billed at 1.10 euros each 10 minutes later, our rice dish for 2 arrived, exactly 30 minutes from ordering, and exactly when it would be expected. To be honest, the rice looked rather grey, but no reason why it shouldn 't we are just so used to getting yellow rice dishes! It had lots of green vegetables in it, as well as all the kinds of strange seafoods, and 2 large prawns on top. It was absolutely delicious, and perfect in texture. Although it said 'WIFI zone ' on all the pillars, I wasn 't able to get on. Not a huge problem though. While we waited for our rice, we enjoyed watching what appeared to be a children 's club, all in little life jackets, playing in the water, and using little sailboats. My only negative comment is that other people came, also without reservations, and were all seated in the second front, and then the front row. If the front row table which we had asked for had indeed been reserved, the people did not show up. We will definitely go here again, and would highly recommend one of their rice dishes."

"They aim to please ... give this place a visit. They aim to please ... This unpretentious almost-right-on-the-beach restaurant certainly aims to please with its generous portions of dishes designed to appeal to the “Common Man”. After a four-hour flight I elected to go for the simplicity of a filling meal in the immediate vicinity of my hotel. I chose their Horizon burger with papas fritas, accompanied by a nice 14.5% alcohol vino tinto, and followed by a strawberry and cream ice cream sundae and a cappuccino. All for just 38 euros. My restaurant experience interests range from Michelin Star restaurants to family-owned Mom and Pop restaurants to classic bodegas and bistros. This restaurant rates due to the honesty of the cuisine (menu, preparation and presentation) and the service with a smile. I travel the world alone, and my servers cannot rely upon me being entertained by an entourage. I received good attention and was made to feel special. The food was well-prepared and was served without much waiting time. Almost all of the wines are sold by the bottle but the quality and reasonable wine prices will encourage alone-dinners to stay until the last drop is imbibed. The three-tiered burger with tomato, lettuce and fried egg was tasty albeit a bit reminiscent of frozen hamburger patties. I understand, however, that their steaks are prime Irish beef. At any rate, do give this place a try when you just need to relax, eat well and inexpensively, and not have to worry about what you are wearing or who you are seen with."

"Although we’d based our visit on the total review score if we’d seen some of the poor reviews first, we would not have gone since they bore out our own unfortunate experience. Having been shown to our table we ordered two glasses of red wine which arrived chilled. When we queried this, the waiter (a nice guy said that is how it is normally served. We’d ordered Pig cheeks and oxtail which both arrived in less than 5 minutes. The first came on a splodge of sweet potato (mash! and some brown tasteless gravy with a garnish of withered cress and the oxtail with some very coarse chips. Nul points for presentation! My wife began to eat her oxtail fairly quickly because it wasn’t particularly hot and I started on my pig cheeks which again weren’t that hot. By this time we were both so unimpressed with the food that we decided we weren’t going to pay for it and got up to leave. Having told the manager of our intention he said he would call for the manager. When she arrived she adopted a very confrontational manner and in very unpleasant tones told us that because my wife had eaten half her meal we would have to pay the full cost of what we’d ordered. We said that because of our unsatisfactory experience we weren’ prepared to do that. She immediately said she was calling the police (something she seems to enjoy doing! . Just for the sake of getting out of the place my wife offered 20E which she accepted. One reviewer suggested avoiding Toro like the plague. Unfortunately, we can only agree. A very disappointing and unpleasant experience!"

"It seems like a lifetime since I last visited Casa Matas, a great little Spanish tapa bar in the wonderful and exciting Arroyo De La Miel area, pandemic descended and travelling more or less banned ,it was a horrible 2020 but now with the magnificent success of the vaccines travelling is gradually being allowed again and my twin brother Stephen and I seized the opportunity and booked eight days in Benalmádena on the Costa Del Sol, one of our first port of calls was Casa Matas and I'm glad to say it's as good as ever. A superb bar ,as Spanish as it gets ,a light and airy interior, a long serving bar dominates the main room, wonderful decor and furnishings plus lots of seating both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Calle Las Flores ,its just a proper cosy locals bar. We were here on a Monday early afternoon, a roasting hot day, we sat outside were a very pleasant member of the bar team took our order of bottles of Cruzcampo beer ,served chilled and accompanied with a tasty tapa of chicken and bread in a delicious sauce, we just kicked back and just savoured being in one of our favourite bars in Arroyo De La Miel and being back in Spain again, a country we both love. My beer was outstanding, light, hoppy and perfect for the hot climate out here, we were here and it was 30 degrees, roasting but the beer cooled us down. We really enjoyed our beers and tapa meal here before we moved on and as on previous visits to Casa Matas we had a great experience. Casa Matas is easy to locate along Calle Las Flores ,a cool little area which is most definitely well worth checking out."
