"My extended family met at this restaurant in Essen early August There were about a dozen of us, ranging from the old down to our year old. The food is typical traditional German food. The atmosphere is very nice it's open space...so you can see everyone. You can also sit outside and enjoy the view, which includes a trail that people seem to take with their dogs. Our son, who was bored after his dinner, wanted to walk around outside, so we found ourselves walking the trail and saying hi to others who were out walking. It was nice, actually. There is a also a koi pond on the premises. Our waiter spoke English, which was very helpful for me as the only adult in the group who didn't speak German. The food was good, and there is a kids menu too. In the end, the food didn't wow me, but it was still good."

"I live here in Essen! I walk by maybe everyday, I never thought to try this place until today! When a friend of me told us about it, and she was very excited about the place. And listen to, SHE WAS RIGHT! It's not a normal café or restaurant, it is a perfect place if you want to study, or just chill meet with friends to catch up and have good time! It is a many floors place with several rooms, where you can play ping pong or some Piano, guitar... etc... Or maybe sit on the roof if you want to smoke. The special about the place ist that you just enter pay 6.90€, then you can stay there and do whatever you want, and you have flatrate for non alcoholic or soft drinks, coffee, tea, cappuccino or even alcohol free beer! Drink whatever you want, do whatever you want, enjoy a free day and spend some quality time with your big group of friends..."

"Das Restaurant "Am Mühlenbach" kann man landläufig unter "Balkan-Restaurant" abheften. Wegen seiner Lage in einem Tal zwischen Holsterhausen und Margarethenhöhe und angesichts der nahe gelegenen Wandermöglichkeiten kann man es auch als Erholungs-Location ansehen. Innen ist das Restaurant mit südländischen Touch gestaltet... -- und das schon seit Jahrzehnten fast unverändert. Für einen ambitionierten Essener gehört dieses Lokal zum Heimat-Inventar. Und wer sich von auswärts da einfindet, wird bestimmt nicht enttäuscht. Die Küche ist verlässlich bieder und wartet stets mit gut zubereiteten und teil zungenbrecherischen Spezialitäten auf. Besonders zu empfehlen ist "Halb und Halb" mit Tschebapptschitschi (das eine "Halb) und Fleisch am Spieß (das andere "Halb"). Vorher warmes Brot mit Kräuterbutter, zum Fleisch reichlich Pommes und nebenher ein frischer und knackiger Salat. Das alles für neun Euro neunzig? - Ja, für EUR 9,90 und keinen Cent mehr. Dazu ein "lecker Bierchen", hinterher ein "lecker Käffchen", und zum Abschluss als Gruß des Hauses das typische Gläschen mit einem harmlosen Balkan-Likör. Nichts Sensationelles und kein Gourmet-Tummelplatz, aber auch nirgends ein Haar in der Suppe. Etwas gegen guten Hunger bei Mordsappetit. Überraschend schmackhaft war die gebratene Forelle mit Butterkartoffeln. Mit dem Drumrum davor und dazu für EUR 12,90 alles andere als teuer. Den geparkten Autos und der Kleidung anderer Gäste nach scheint das Restaurant bei einer soliden Mittelschicht beliebt und also als etwas "Ordentliches" anerkannt zu sein. Wer Ruhe und Erholung sucht und gut speisen möchte, sollte sich "Am Mühlenbach" einfinden. Ja, und wer es nicht lassen kann, immer und überall online zu sein und im WEB zu stöbern, wird auch nicht enttäuscht. Das Kennwort für WLAN wird gern herausgegeben. Die Verbindung ist auch über die ganze Terrasse hinweg gut."

"Wir waren zwischen Weihnachten und Sylvester im Historischen Gasthaus mit einer schönen Runde von 7 Leuten im Historischen Gasthaus in Borbeck.Vorweg: es ist auch per Bahn gut zu erreichen; da die Lokalität nicht weit vom Bh Borbeck ist.Ambiente:Das Restaurant heißt nicht umsonst Historisches Gasthaus, es ist ein 150 jähriges Fachwerkhaus und es strahlt wirklich eine schöne urige Gemütlichkeit aus.In Zeiten, wo jedes Restaurant ein unverkennbares und doch wiederkehrendes Design haben möchte, ist das eine willkommene Abwechslung..Der Betreiber des Hauses, Herr Echterhoff führte uns mit tollen Anekdoten und Erinnerungen durch den Abend, ohne jedoch Aufdringlich zu sein.. Man merkt schnell, dass hier ein erfahrener Wirt und Menschenkenner das Geschäft führt; die Frau des Hauses konnten wir nur durch ihre Kochkünste kennenlernen..Die Speisekarte gab es in Form einer Kreidetafel mit wenigen ausgewählten saisonalen Gerichten. Wir hatten uns für Zander mit Lauchgemüse, Iberico Duroc Schweinefilet mit Senfkruste auf Wirsinggemüse und Rumpsteak vom Simmentaler Rind mit Speckbohnen, dazu gab es in Butter gegarte Kartoffeln.Dazu gab es passend frisch gezapftes Veltins.Das Essen passte hervorragend zum schönen Ambiente und war einfach toll zubereitet; alles war schön angerichtet und die Portion hat Jeden gesättigt. Das Fleisch wie auch der Fisch waren auf den perfekten Garpunkt gebraten. Viel Wert wurde auch auf die Gemüsebeilagen gelegt, alles schmeckte perfekt. Vor allem der Wirsing hat es uns angetan; ich habe noch nie in meinen Leben einen so leckeren Wirsing gegessen! Er war nicht matschig, hatte angenehmen Biss und die Mehlschwitze(?) hatte einen ganz leichten Senfgeschmack (kann aber auch von der Senfkruste des Schweins kommen) und der Kümmel war perfekt ausbalanciert (und ich bin kein besonders großer Fan von Kümmel).Chapeau! Toll fand ich, dass es eine gut sortierte Sammlung an Whiskys und Rum gab (mehr ein Best-of als gut sortiert wie der Yamazaki Whisky oder der Ron ZacapaEdición Negra)Auch konnte der Wirt uns mit ausgefallenen Likören überraschen..Wir verbrachten einen wundervollen Abend im Historischen Gasthaus und werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!"

The entire menù is written in Italian (with many errors like porco instead of maiale ...Very few dishes are really italian but there is some very similar. I ate a good caprese with a fresh mozzarella (fiordilatte) and good tomato. They make also a good pizza, more similar to the Rome's type but good taste. At first I thought there was some ketchup in the tomato' s sauce but trying their fresh tomatoes in the caprese I understood that is a particular taste of it. Not the best pizza in the world but one of the best in Essen. Good Italian wine. Obviously no one talks Italian, just a few talks English but they are kind and courtesy. Avoid to go when is full due to an extremely slow service."
