"Strictly speaking the name Alborz refers to a mountain range in the north of Iran although I 'm told it is also a male name that means 'the highest one '. Not that any of that is relevant to a restaurant in Kensington. Probably the best thing this eatery has going for it is its location, situated as it is opposite the well known Olympia exhibition centre. So it was an obvious choice when I visited with a colleague recently, having completed a day exhibiting at an event at the venue opposite. The place was quiet when we visited on a Friday evening, although it did fill up while we were there. Actually it was a little airy, and generally the decor appeared in need of refreshing, although the artwork on the walls was certainly a point of interest. Service was polite and friendly, though not overly enthusiastic. The menu was interesting a fairly simple selection of cold appetisers and salads and main courses that were largely variations of kebabs (marinated lamb, chicken and fish) not that I object to a kebab. I like that there was a Persian translation of the menu, which I hope was an indication that this restaurant is favoured by the local Persian population always a good sign. On the downside I was disappointed that they don 't serve alcohol but I respect that, and it wasn 't really a deal breaker for me. To be fair they will allow you to bring your own wine. The starters, when they came, were reminiscent of Greek/Lebanese cuisine, with the ubiquitous flatbread, hummus, stuffed vine leaves and aubergine dip (see pictures). we opted for the selection of 4 mixed starters for £14.50, which is good if you have difficulty choosing or wish to try a variety. The mains were perhaps too ambitious a mixed grill for 2 consisting of skewers of minced lamb, chicken breast, shish lamb fillet, tomatoes rice (see picture), which proved rather too much even for us. At £30 I do think it was overpriced for what was served, but it was nice though, well cooked and beautifully presented. Coming in at nearly £60 for two, considering there was no alcohol, is not cheap. But having to wait rather too long for the bill was a bit of a spoiler, and at a time when the restaurant wasn 't even that busy. This lackadaisical approach compelled me to ask again for the bill something I dislike doing tremendously for fear of appearing pushy or impatient. But that is a minor niggle. It wouldn 't prevent me from visiting again for what I now know is genuine Persian cuisine."

"Completely spoiled my kid's birthday dinner mood!! This is not the first time that I've been to the restaurant. This time my kid want to introduce Chinese food chopsticks to her friend who is a UK native. When we were seated 3 of these 8 yr old girls as usual chatty type, the waitress came and asked the girls to be quiet. I promise they were not loud at all. While having dinner the birthday girl spill some soup on the table and mostly on the dress, my wife tried to clean it up and the waitress was extremely rude and screaming at my wife saying don't put it on the floor. I was almost going to burst out but cannot as I have 2 other kids with me. While paying the bill I asked the owner to deduct anything for the spill. I politely asked the owner how come the lady waitress behave in such a way with customer. He was being apologetic but the lady waitress (black frame glasses) came again and now argued with me saying she is right that is not the way you clean table. At that time, I do not know what to say or how to react. The owner kept quiet. I am sharing this as this happened before and will happen again as human nature don't change. I somehow missed to check the review. How come the owner allow such waitress on the floor ? It was a disappointing terrible experience !! while end up paying a bill close to 3 digit. I will never go there and never recommend anyone specially with kids. If you are there and this happen to you please do react complain appropriately. I could not do it due to the kids."

"We booked a table, surprisingly it wasn’t that busy. There were lots of delivery drivers collecting, easy to understand why. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Not hot either. Bring your own alcohol if you want a drink, soft drinks only served, well advertised. They don’t charge corkage either. We started with a poppodom each, they were freshly cooked (not the usual pre made reheated rubbish), they were like fluffy but crunchy clouds, they just melted in the mouth, not hard and not oily. I could easily eat half a dozen of these with mango chutney and raita for a meal. The mango chutney and raita are made freshly in the restaurant, unfortunately the manager wouldn’t share the recipes, darn lol. Considering everything is made fresh to order the service is very quick. I hadn’t even finished my poppodom before the chicken tikka starter arrived. Hubby and I shared a chicken tikka starter, we have both been eating Indian food for over 40 years, and said we both thought it was the best chicken tikka we had ever tasted. It was succulent, and delicious. It could only have been improved by the raw sliced onions accompanying it having been lightly fried. Served with a piece of hot lemon too, perfect. The King Prawn Karahi was excellent, awesome taste, the Chilli Chicken was suitably hot and had a delicious flavour as well. We were so busy eating and waxing lyrical about our dinner we hardly had time to talk to each other lol. We ordered Keema Rice, I was disappointed because it had peppers and tomatoes in it (that’s a first for us). As I had asked for my dish to have no peppers or tomatoes we mentioned it to the manager, he apologised, said it was an error and removed the rice from our bill. The manager was very nice, did a check back as well. The portions are a good size, so value for money. If we lived nearer we would probably have a weekly delivery from here, if not more often. It’s rare to get perfectly cooked food with such good flavour, and great service as well. Definitely looking forward to next time we eat here. I can highly recommend eating here. Can’t remember the last time I thought that, or found a restaurant this good. Thank you to the manager and chef for making our little break perfect."
