"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"

"Roz Ana is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of the city. As an avid lover of Indian cuisine, my dining experience at this restaurant was truly delightful. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and inviting ambiance instantly transported me to a world of authentic Indian flavors. The staff at Roz Ana was incredibly attentive and friendly. They greeted us with genuine smiles and promptly escorted us to our table. Our server was well-versed in the menu, providing insightful suggestions while accommodating our dietary preferences. As for the food, it was an absolute feast for the senses! Every dish we ordered was meticulously crafted, presenting a perfect blend of spices and flavors. The variety on the menu left us spoilt for choice, and we ended up ordering the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala. Each dish was prepared to perfection, with the chicken and lamb being delightfully tender and succulent. The presentation of the food was also visually pleasing, showcasing the care and attention given to every detail. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring we left with satisfied palates and content stomachs. Additionally, the restaurant didn't compromise on authenticity; the flavors were true to traditional Indian cuisine while also offering a modern twist. What sets Roz Ana apart from other Indian restaurants is its commitment to catering to vegetarian and vegan diners. The extensive vegetarian options on the menu impressed me, highlighting the restaurant's dedication to inclusivity. The only reason I'm not giving a five-star rating is the slightly inflated prices. While the quality and taste of the food were top-notch, it would have been more affordable to dine here regularly if the prices were a tad lower. However, considering the overall experience and the high-quality ingredients used, it's understandable why they command a premium. My conclusion, Roz Ana is the perfect place to satisfy your craving for Indian cuisine. Whether you're a regular fan or an adventurous newcomer, this restaurant guarantees a cultural and culinary experience that will leave a lasting impression. Despite the slightly higher prices, I will definitely be returning to indulge in the rich flavors and warm atmosphere again!"

"Really lovely genuine Italian, family run feel to the the restaurant. Not terribly large but seems to be well laid out so I can 't imagine it would feel any more cramped than any other restaurant when it 's full. We went on a Tuesday night in the middle of a summer heatwave but it still ended up fairly busy and seemed to have a fair few know-them-by-name regulars, which is always a good sign for any establishment. The service was fantastic and all of the staff seemed genuinely happy to be working there. Complementary nibbles were brought out to start, which were some kind of open textured bread with olive oil and herbs, which were enjoyed by the people who tried them. We skipped starters and between us had two pizzas, one pasta, and one meat dish for mains. The pizza eaters were really impressed, the meat dish was veal with a cream and mushroom sauce which was described as delicious, with perfectly cooked vegetables, and my spaghetti carbonara was absolutely gorgeous. They had no problem at all accommodating small alterations to dishes or checking ingredients and everything came out exactly as ordered. For pudding we had between us two different sorbet desserts which were lovely and refreshing (though we were so hot and full we couldn 't even finish them) and 'torta della Nonna ' which was described as a light, slightly nutty tart that was perfect to finish with. We had all only had soft drinks in the end and one of us didn 't have any dessert, but even so it was less than £20 per head and for the quality of both food and service we all felt it was worth much more. All in all we had a wonderful evening and we will most definitely be going back again and again, and telling everyone else to do the same!"

"I've featured my local Big Smoke pub before but on the rare occasion I found The Albion mostly empty, and serving the exceptional A&H London Black from the official glassware, I figured it was time to feature a review. I believe this was the second pub Big Smoke opened, building on the success of The Antelope in Surbiton. It's been here as long as I can remember, and at one stage had a Gin Distillery out the back which I think is now just garden seating (opted not to pap this, but there's a huge garden there with beer festivals held in the summer). Indoors, it's familiar to those who know the chain. Wooden panelling, ample seating, vinyl soundtracked vibe, 10+ ales and ciders, a multitude of keg offerings too including 2 AF options in the form of Lucky Saint and their own AF beer which has gone down well over the past month. You get a mixture of students, weekend shoppers, families and real ale folk in here, it's a nice melting pot of booze enthusiasts and those looking for a pub not surrounded by Vape Shops, a step away from the town centre, outside of the rampant demolition you see taking over Kingston. It's sort of a home away from home, despite only being some 15-20 minutes down the road from me, a chain familiarity but still less polished than those brand new Big Smoke pubs you spot in greater London. With time to kill it can be a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of town, but with Rugby on and one of the few spacious family friendly pubs in the area it can get quite hectic. A nice problem to have for Big Smoke. Food again is similar to the other sites, a sort of BBQ meets pub grub style, with plenty of bits in-between to choose from. See the place pack out for weekends with roasts on, and various offers during the week. The pub dates back to 1845, little known about its history other than it was advertised as a sort of taproom with a view to watch the recreational sports on the green. Once Greene King, now Big Smoke, another one saved from mediocrity."
