"The place is great, the menu top, prices fair. On the other hand, the service was lousy. When people order trays and they PAY, the least they can do is give napkins and cutlery and not blow when asked, this message is especially aimed at the short black-haired English-speaking miss. We're here to have a good time, not teach you your job. It's good to hire pretty little girls, it would be even better if they know how to serve... of course this doesn't concern all the waitresses, some are adorable and professional."

"Nous avions prévu un business lunch pour 4, dont une personne dont le physique est certes peu connu, mais qui a reçu un César et a été nominé aux oscars, bref un VIP. Sachant cela et comme ce dont nous voulions discuter était confidentiel, j'avais pris soin de réserver plusieurs semaines à l'avance en demandant une table tranquille et un peu à l'écart. Nous sommes arrivés suffisamment à l'avance pour préparer notre entretien avec cette personne et on nous attribue une table au beau milieu des autres, dans le passage ... Je demande à changer de table en expliquant ma demande, sans trop de détails à l'un des serveurs (en costume) - il m'a dit qu'il voulait voir avec son chef. Une demi-heure plus tard, n'ayant aucune nouvelles je relance l'un des autres serveurs ( le précédent ayant disparu des radars) on me propose une table, à l'écart cette fois-ci, une petit table carrée car les tables rondes n'étaient pas disponible m'a t'on dit. OK, on s'installe. Je précise que 45 minutes avaient passé et que personne ne nous a demandé si nous voulions boire quelque chose ... La table était dressée pour deux et non pas pour 4 ... 15 minutes plus tard, à quelques minutes de l'heure de notre rendez-vous, nous avons attrapé un 3ème serveur (qui lui était simplement en chemise blanche et sans veste) et lui avons demandé si nous pouvions boire quelque chose et en avons profité pour demandé qu'ils préparent la table pour 4, ce qui a été fait quelques très rapidement, ouf ! Puis nous avons mangé, nourriture très bonne soit dit en passant. Au moment de payer nous avons également du nous battre, tout d'abord pour obtenir l'addition puis pour qu'on nous amène la machine car nous voulions payer par carte. Bref, nous sommes les 4 arrivés à la même conclusion : plus de Café Beau-Rivage pour nous, la qualité des plats n'étant pas suffisante pour compenser l'incompétence du personnel de salle. Dommage, on est quand même dans un 5* - vous trouvez ça normal vous ? moi pas !"

"I really like Ethiopian food and was looking forward to this visit as I had recently visited another Ethiopian/ Eritrean restaurant close by called the Red Sea. My first impression of Abyssinia from the outside was not really great. I think the entrance signboard and façade looked outdated and could definitely improve apparently the restaurant has been around for a decade). looks a bit like a Kebab take away shop. But this was ok and could be overlooked as the interiors were a different story altogether. As in really really great! Rustic, authentic decor from the ceiling to the seating to the menu card right up to the toilet entrance! Really loved it! I love authenticity and this place oozed of it! the servers were also nice and courteous. We ordered the menu dégustation which has a bit of everything and it even looked great when it was brought. Not too long a wait. So all great so far but that’s where the plot was lost. The food was cold !!!And of course the flavours don’t really come out with cold food. This was a real let down and up until this point we were really enjoying. I guess we should have sent the food back, but the damage had been done. So from then on the shine rubbed off and we finished and left with the same take- away feeling one would get from a mediocre dining experience. So Abyssinia really are close to getting it all right but simple execution mistakes such as cold food are not doing them any favours. As in if I had to make a choice of going for Ethiopian food In Lausanne, I would probably go back to The Red Sea which is just a 100 mts away. The ambience there is not comparable at all but the food was much better."

"Small seating area was very full when we arrived at 8pm without a reservation (a sign that the food would be good), and we were greeted in a friendly manner and asked to wait at the bar for 4-5 minutes as a table would be...open soon. Our orders were taken quickly after seating and the excellent pizza was served in less than 10 minutes. It has earned and deserves its good reputation and rating."

"I ate here because of the à la carte patisserie and as a sweet tooth I got my money's worth! The patisserie was so accurate, every dessert was a surprise and also tasted great. So many highlights: The signature dessert in white was actually a great millefeuille, a real vanilla bomb! The strawberry dessert hid, among other things, the best rice pudding ever. And the meringue with coffee was unbeatable. The patisserie demonstrated a very high level of conceptual and craftsmanship, chapeau! The location is also beautiful, you can enjoy the appetizers on the terrace. The service was also perfect, very friendly and attentive."

"I’ve been going to the Nil Bleu for more than 10 years and I’ve always enjoyed their food and friendly service. It feels a bit like being at home at a friend’s. Their new location is smaller but very cozy, and the upper dining room is super pleasant. I love that you can say «  vegan and gluten-free » and they know what you mean. Better yet, that’s what their traditional food is all about. If you like it spicy, mention it when ordering."

"Very small place reservation essential and a bit elbow to elbow. Service was first class and the food was excellent. Very fresh, properly prepared, decent selection of fish (some of which was not on the menu, but available as a kind of “daily catch” . Was persuaded to try unfiltered sake, which I had never had before (despite having lived in Japan and I do NOT recommend it. Their standard cold dry sake was perfectly good, unfiltered was milky and sweet, not nice at all. But otherwise, nice restaurant, good food and service, will go again."

"I used my own recyclable shopping bag to carry shop products in the store and emptied it fully in front of the cashier to pay. (Minimizing contact in pandemic environment). To my shock, the cashier still asked to check the inside of my bag. She wanted to ensure I was not trying get away without paying for more products, basically she was suspicious that I would steal. A loyal customer's for the last 6 years in Lausanne, this felt very insulting! Living in Switzerland for more than 10 years, this is the first time my bag have been checked (and for no real reason). And I imagine they do this for every many customers using their own shopping bags, which is common in Switzerland. Like some other comments here, I think their customer attitude and orientation can be improved."

"My family and I spent a pleasant and quiet evening at this restaurant. The decoration and atmosphere were conducive to relaxation and tasting, giving the impression of being elsewhere. The service was also excellent. As a home cook, I have to admit to eating well. I chose the Lamb Tagine with Prunes, while my company opted for the Lamb Tagine with Artichokes with Couscous, and both dishes were excellent. I was even able to have my tea only with mint, because green tea disrupts my sleep. At other places, asking for just mint often gets strange looks, but here the lady even suggested it to me! This restaurant is highly recommended!"

"Warm welcome, nice open and clean dining area, interesting 'build your own' concept with great range of toppings, very quick service for the 6 of us. One of the best pizzas I've had. Whole group felt the same. Highly recommended. It's a very long walk from the Olympic museum! But certainly builds a good appetite!! And worth the walk if your training budding olympians!!!"

"Obeirut is a very well known address in Lausanne but I never had the chance to go there until last Tuesday. The service was at first very slow, they didn't ask us for drinks and we had to call the waiter after 15min. They took our drink order, but not the food.. Had to wait again.. We took the menu, and it came pretty quickly. The food is ABSOLUTELY delicious! After the appetizers we were all almost full.. It has been impossible to finish the main dishes.. And then came the dessert . One of us didn't take the menu so had no dessert but the waiter generously offered him one. At the end, they offered the digestive.. Depsite we had to wait quite a bit at the beginning, the overall experience was Stunning and the staff super friendly."

"Grilled raviolis that are clearly homemade, delicious and perfectly cooked to have a crispy bottom. Chicken with cumin that is light, tender and subtly flavored (not overwhelming like when I make lamb with cumin at home). Even their hot chili oil was notable, having almost a chili paste with oil and tiny sessame seeds. Pleasant, considerate yet professional service. I plan to return, but with more people so we can enjoy a larger sampling of the menu."

"Can't remember how long ago it was, but I attended a group dinner at the Grotto where we were served Spaghetti alla Vongole and it was incredible. Long time later, I drove by the place and it was gone - replaced by housing. Have wanted to go back ever since.Finally found a restaurant named Grotto2. Located roughly in the same part of town. Checked the menu and THIS IS IT! Finally got around to going last week and trying the Spaghetti alla Vongole again, and it completely lived up to my memory. Very simple preparation with plenty of garlic flavor and al dente pasta, but the sweet tiny claims are the real treat. Some delicious wines by the glass too.Can't wait to go again and sample around the menu a bit."

"We really liked the food there! To be honest at first glance, the place did not look out, as it had a culinary pleasure... We just ended there because of the fork app. But what a surprise we have! Fabulous salmon star and entrecote, excellent tiramisu and chocolate fondant to name some. We were only a few days in Lausanne, but were able to dine twice at the Sidewalk Café. We'll return when we get back to town."

"Food is nicely plated and the service is friendly. Taste is dissappointing. Tried the veal, lamb and beef filet, was all okay, but the overall composition was bad, vegetables tasted fishy, sauce was sparse, potatoes were really bad. Scallops were bland and not prepped well. Salmon tartar looked horrendous. Fries were super nice though. Overall not worth going if you love food. If you dont care too much, you will have a good time."

"A perfect culinary experience combined with a very warm welcome. Being a South American myself, I randomly stopped in front of this little fast food restaurant and was able to taste a spicy marinated chicken burrito. The team prepares the burrito directly on site with only fresh food and original recipes from Latin America. I was expecting a fairly basic dish but surprisingly I was able to enjoy a good dish with Latin flavors. Plus the quantity is perfect, neither too much nor too little. I leave there more than satisfied with my culinary experience. I was also able to chat with the cook and you can feel the passion for cooking when he talks about recipes and knowledge. Making a detour to this little fast food is clearly worth it. Both in terms of price and in terms of quality."

"Tibits was founded from 3 brothers and the founder of Hiltl (oldest vegetarian restaurant) For sure on the same level as Hiltl maybe a bit more mainstream talking about the target customers. The food selection is huge from every region of the world. Well prepared for every meal which is very rare! Almost everything is also vegan. As a vegan you for sure will be happy and satisfied thinking about the very huge variety. Talking about the spot itsel it just beautifully integrated within the main station with huge sealings! Nice atmosphere therefore. Plates are paid by weight. Serving different food for breakfast till 10am. One of the best places across switzerland! Updated from previous review on 2024 04 04"
