"Went this evening with my missus for a light bite. Always loved this place and reviewed it on multiple platforms with a 5 star rating. Today was different. Pulled into the car park and nearly pooped my pants at hitting a pothole. Got out the car and walked through the beer garden. It was the saddest state I've ever seen the place and wasn't sure if it was closed or not. Ordered a pint of Birra Moretti and a pint of neck oil. The Moretti was fine, but the neck oil lacked the Beavertown flavour. Had to ask the staff to look at a menu for the food. I asked for recommendations for a lighter bite, but the staff member said they haven't got a clue what to suggest. My Mrs ordered Halloumi Fries, and I ordered Scampi and Chips, no salad and chips well done. The food arrived in a decent time. Chips were cooked to my request, but several black bits had to be cut off. The Scampi was breaded, and very obviously a cheap frozen one, but I was so hungry by this point I just wanted to eat it. If I said it wasn't the worst pub meal I've had, I'd be lying. 4 and a half hours later, I write this review with severe cramp, and several attempts to stop myself being sick. The Halloumi Fries contained a thinly sliced bit of halloumi with a whopping amount of batter. The salad was far from fresh, and the onion smelled awful. Pains me to say it, but I won't be back. This used to be a lovely place, but nothing about today's visit was good."

"I drove an hour out of my way to have lunch here on a damp Saturday afternoon in March. It was worth the drive. At first, entering, finding staff and getting a table was confusing. I entered through the main door. There were no signs or a hostess. I saw a waitress and she told me to go to the bar. The one bartender was busy. After a few minutes, he asked what I wanted to drink. I told him I wanted a table for lunch. He then had to go speak with someone else before showing me to a table upstairs by the fireplace. It was a lovely room that looked a little like an overflow room. I could be wrong. He seemed to be doing triple duty as bartender in the pub, host for tables, and serving any drink orders as all alcoholic drinks, even wine, is delivered by him thereby leaving the bar in the downstairs pub unattended. They need a better system. I 've never seen something as confused and inefficient as this. That aside, the somewhat limited lunch menu was a little different than the published menu on the website. I ended up ordering the caesar salad with chicken. It was honestly the best caesar salad that I 've had in a long, long time. The only reasons I rated the restaurant very good as opposed to excellent ? First, the whole arrival system. It was a complete disaster. Second, the lettuce in the salad wasn 't chopped up. The knife they gave me was basically a butter knife. It was difficult to cut the salad into pieces to eat. Third, the wine list is extensive but extremely limited for wines by the glass. Considering the fact that many customers are driving there for lunch or dinner, a bottle of wine is unrealistic. There should be some more options by the glass. Ignoring those two things, the food was superb. The young waitress was attentive. I absolutely loved the decor and theme of the Lord Crewe Arms. If in the area, I would return. Hopefully there will be a better system when and if I return."

"Things didn't start off well as when the website was checked for the Sunday Lunch Menu it wasn't what was available at the Blackbird if you read all the way to the bottom of the listing it was for their sister pub miles away. Parking not a problem but just remember to input your car registration into the screen at the bar. We were seated immediately but on a small table just next to the entrance which normally wouldn't have been a problem except there were a number of dogs sat next to the table and I am allergic to dogs. We mentioned this to the person greeting diners and on request they moved us into the restaurant. I had a quick chat to the greeter to say thank you for moving us and to explain the reason why we needed to move and he said we should have mentioned the allergy over the phone when we booked. We had booked online and there was no indication that an allergy to dogs should be mentioned alongside food allergies. Our friendly server gave us menus which were completely different to the online menu both in choices and price and then took our/ drinks order. Our drinks came promptly and our meal choices were taken (1 Roast Lamb and 1 Roast Beef) we didn't want starters. The mains arrived quickly along with the separate bowls with the mixed vegetables and swede. The main plate had a good portion of meat, some very impressive Yorkshire Puds and some roast/mashed potato. However, we found the bowls of vegetables were luke warm, the swede was a brown colour with no taste, the main plates weren't hot and the Yorkshire puddings had no real taste the chefs really need to concentrate on seasonings. The pub has a very friendly local atmosphere and a really interesting history and is very dog friendly which I applaud (perhaps they can amend their website to give extended advice for allergy suffers wanting to eat in the restaurant)."
