"We moved in the area in 2013 and was glad there were 2 Chinese take away. At that time, Seng house was not as good as the one on the opposite side, so we had been its regular customers until a couple months ago. The last 3 or 4 times we ordered from the opposite Chinese Thai take away, food was under par: beef, squid and roast pork were chewy. (I am oriental so maybe a bit more critical? Even prawn crackers were undercooked and chewy. Fried rice was dry, had to add water to microwave to warm up, for example. And they reduce their portion sizes. So we decided to try Seng House last night 1st May 2021 (Saturday night . We ordered Special Fried Rice, Egg fried rice, Singapore fried rice, King Prawn Satay, Roast Pork Cashew Nuts, Salt Pepper Chicken wings, Special Yellow Bean sauce dish, prawn crackers. And wow, everything was cooked right. They were all delicious! None of the fried rice were dry, all the meat prawns were nicely cooked, and not chewy. Satay sauce was really tasty; chicken wings were not overcooked, either. Regular normal containers: they have not reduced the sizes yet. Overall our family was very pleased with the food. If Seng House can consistently produce the quality of food we had yesterday, we will go back to Seng House in the near future for our Chinese take away. If you are local and have not tried it, please have a go. It offers slightly different choices, too."

"From my initial phone call to book a table for 5 people for lunch on a Wednesday, I was asked if there were any vegetarians among us, but I wasn't told that it was only a carvery on a Wednesday and that no other menu was running. When we arrived the bar service was slow, and there were limited number of large bottles of white wine available as per the wine list, so we just settled for anything that was available. (Although once in the dining room I did spot several on a rather large wine rack! My daughter asked for a Disaronno and coke, and just got a coke. The bar waitress did apologise and said that she usually worked in the restaurant. Finally when we got into the restaurant this is when we discovered that it was only a carvery. 2 members of the group had previously looked on the internet for a menu but couldn't find anything. The vegetarians were catered for with a creamy asparagus pie, but unfortunately my daughter is allergic to garlic and couldn't have hers, so maybe 2 items to chose from would be a better deal for us vegetarians, after all there were 3 of us. The selection of vegetables was great and we all loved the cauliflower cheese. The 2 meat eaters also loved their feast and said that the meat was cooked very well. On request we were provided with vegetarian gravy, but no one came and asked us if everything was alright, and the food wasn't that hot. We did all opt for a dessert, and the Rocky Road Cheesecake was delicious, however, the Tropical Fruit Sundae was a bit basic with the use of tinned fruit cocktail. We were asked if we required drink refills or coffees. As there were no menus/information about, it was hard to work out the prices and we were all pleasantly surprised that the desserts came in with the carvery price of £9 again, we couldn't see any information anywhere to tell us this, and if you hadn't had a dessert (or a coffee which is counted as a dessert you might feel a little hard done by. I think the key to our experience, and indeed this review, is the lack of information, but the carvery itself is good value for money and worth a try."

"The most disappointing thing about this entire 'memorable ' experience is that the management did not take full responsibility for it. The service was so bad we look back and see it as funny. Booked for 8 PM on Saturday 4 April. We arrived 7.50, our table was still occupied so we waited in the bar no drama. Finally got to the table 8.45. Orders were finally taken 9.15ish. First order arrived 10.10 (for my 10 year old son who had never eaten so quickly) and then filtered through over 10-15 minutes. Two were sent back and one re-appeared around 10.40 so we had a solo eater on our table of 9 finishing around 11. They had their problems in the kitchen, which they acknowledged at the end, but their offer of the last two meals free was insulting. In the end we got 25% of the food bill, actually not much more than two meals free. There is an argument for at least 50% off, you could argue it was simply unacceptable and not worthy of payment but we had to negotiate with the Management eve to get the 25% of the food bill. If we had not have had 3 children in our group we would have walked. Communication along the way was poor. If they had told us earlier of the problems we could have made a decision to go elsewhere. We are disappointed for our relatives who live near-by and booked it. We are disappointed for the pub as a business because the service was simply not acceptable on any level."
