"Long but fair comments. Hoping we visited on a poor day as we had so much hope with the positive reviews… It is always challenging to find somewhere to eat between Christmas and New Year, but The Queen’s Head was open so decided to visit for the first time in a few years for a family (birthday) lunch. Drinks standard Shepherd Neame selection, but both Bear Island and Christmas Ale tasted of pipe cleaning fluid. Couldn’t finish a half pint of either. Food it is always a worry when there are so many options on the menu. Standard menu, burger menu, specials menu, and “the chef is also doing…”. Must have been 25 options minimum. The burgers that were ordered were bland and tasteless, having run out of “pulled pork (after 25min wait), brioche buns, tomato relish, etc”. Chips/wedges were cold. Salad leaves turning and inedible. Pheasant promised much, but appeared in a large soup/pasta bowl, absolutely dredged in a sickly gravy. Picking through to discover edible meat was a task in itself. Roast potatoes became soggy in the gravy disaster. VERY limited vegetarian options. Vegetarian burger was different to as advertised on the menu and was dry. Service long wait times for food and for the bill. Bill came incorrect, and when advised, took an age to get rectified. ALSO NOTE: Shepherd Neame gold card is NOT accepted here. Appreciate it can be a challenging time of year, but we pick places to eat based on reviews, so thought it would only be fair to share our experience. Other reviews of The Queen’s Head seem positive…."

"Booked a table for 2 for Valentine 's Day per email on 28.01.23. Had a phone call from a lady to confirm the reservation. Arrived today at the Barnyard. My husband entered the restaurant while I parked the car. Apparently the gentleman on the reception was unable to find my booking on the computer. However, he offered a table in the bar or at the back corner in the main restaurant. My husband chose the table in the main restaurant. Can 't say that this was very romantic, especially as there were a few (nicer) empty tables which were later occupied with couples. I enquired again at the reception regarding my reservation but the gentleman didn 't seem to understand and kept telling me that I had a table and apparently nothing else seemed to interest him. He also didn 't understand or couldn 't be bothered when I asked him what was the point of of booking when there is no table on arrival. Anyhow, I realised, there was no point in talking to this person. Sat down and wrote an email to the booking team. This gentleman took our order and when he later brought the food, he enquired of our name. Now it appears that it was all my husbands fault. Instead of WOLSONCROFT, he apparently said Wilson . (You couldn 't make it up) Besides, we were sitting on the right table the guardian of the reception declared as he had now found my booking on his computer. And then he walked off. No this is not a Monty Python sketch"

"Having popped down the seafront at lunchtime, we were surprised to see pretty much all the food establishments were closed. While sitting outside the Rose and Crown pub, enjoying a drink in the sun, we spotted Woody's across the way. As the pub didn't do food, we popped over and got a takeaway. Upon entry, Woody's appeared very clean, tidy, and structured. It had clear designated ‘order’ and ‘collection’ areas, as to avoid confusion and customer build-up. The lady working on the till was engaging and upbeat. Once paid, she directed me to the collection area. Another lady was working at the collection area, preparing, and assembling the food. She too was engaging. She even went that bit extra and asked if I’d like some lemon to accompany my fish. Something I don’t believe I’ve ever been asked before from a fish and chip takeaway. From purchase to collection, I’d say I was there for no more than 4 minutes. Whilst it was relatively quiet, it was a very quick turnaround. I felt the chips were a bit too soggy, however, my girlfriend very much disagreed. Personal taste I suppose. Sogginess aside, they were fluffy, consistent chips. The fish was excellent! Very light, tasty batter (a nice change from some of the dense, indestructible batter some shops offer) and the fish itself was extremely succulent. Whether you’re after the classic fish and chips on the seafront or just a simple takeaway, I would strongly recommend visiting Woody’s Fish Bar."
