"We visited The Plough on two consecutive nights on the basis of reviews and because we could walk from where we were staying in Kelmscott. Neither experience was great. First night we both made the mistake of having the Double Gloucester cheese soufflé. Let 's just say this was not what we expected a cheese soufflé to be. It was more like a steamed pudding in a bowl of cheese sauce with grilled cheese on top! Neither of us could finish it and it gave my wife such bad indigestion that she couldn 't eat any of her rather greasy chicken escalope main course. Avoid at all costs. The second night we both opted for the steak frites. This was passable but the meat had obviously been standing for a while as the beure café de paris on top was not melting, it was so cold. We were hungry so couldn 't be bothered to send it back but we did query it as the plates were being cleared. The message came back from the kitchen that there had been no delay . But that just sums the place up. The waiting staff had no idea what they were doing and took an age to do anything. We ordered sparkling wine as an aperitif (once I had found the wine list for myself! and this was left for several minutes where we could see it going flat before anyone bothered to bring it to the table. We ordered wine to go with the mains and we had to ask for it again as we were at risk of finishing eating before it arrived! To summarise, set your expectations low and you might have a nice time and avoid the cheese soufflé."

"Arrived asking if still did food service at 14:20 to be told unfortunately food stopped at 2pm, but they can offer basket meals at the price of £8.50. Simple selection but with my mother of 78, it wasn 't ideal but we went with the flow. We paid an astonishing £36 for food and drinks for three. whilst ordering the drinks, some small talk from the barman/owner about a old mate coming down and that he 'd been 'Heineken 'd and probably feeling it later ' was the bar mans choice of words whilst serving us and discussing his day with other punters. Great! We chose to sit in the court yard, sun trap and beautiful but unfortunately smokers were there. Other couples we 're also informed of the late food basket ordering offered, some 20 minutes after us. Their food arrived within 10 minutes of them ordering. I then asked where our food was as it had been 48 minutes since ordering It takes time to burn the sausages he replied! (my mom asked for well done sausages! not burnt to a crisp! The meals arrived and to my shock, the content of the baskets of food was appalling! I asked for more chips as I had only 19 slim chips in the basket, yet the extras we asked for arrived within 5 minutes of complaining and asking for more. He thought it was so funny to make us wait 45 minutes for burnt sausages whilst clearing the plates away! Very disappointing to what seemed a good looking place! In summary, avoid if possible, as there are many other good food outlets in the area."
