"Nine of us made a reservation a few months in advance for a Christmas night out. We paid a deposit and selected our food choices. The reservation was for 7pm, but two weeks before the night we were asked to come at 6pm due to a large party coming in. We were seated away from the main dining area next to the outdoor smoking area. We waited at least half an hour before anyone came to our table. The starters we ordered arrived and were fine, but when our main meals came, only 7 out of the 9 were brought out. It was clear that the missing meals hadn't been cooked with the order. Two of our group had to wait another 20 minutes for their meals while the rest of us finished eating. The manager apologized and offered the delayed meals for free, which we accepted. However, when desserts arrived, 5 of them were incorrect and had to be replaced. Drinks that were not ours were also brought to our table, and despite telling the waiter, he insisted they were for us. The service was extremely poor and seemed to be in total chaos. None of the waiting staff checked on us during the meal, and both the main courses and desserts were incorrect, which was disappointing considering we had made our choices months in advance. The manager apologized again and offered a small discount on the bill, but we have no intention of ever booking this restaurant for a planned meal again. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and meal."

"My wife was taking part in a cycling event starting from the Fire College in Moreton so booked for the pub campsite for 2 nights plus we booked to eat on Friday and Saturday evening. We were made to feel very welcome. Pitches are not marked which did mean that some people took up rather more than their fair share of space. Our motorhome is not much larger in footprint than a pick up 4x4 vehicle so we did manage to squeeze in.Camp site is small and has a cleverly constructed block that contains to family sized bathrooms with shower sink and loo these were kept very clean. Separate shower cubicles and a toilet were attached to the pub. There is a larger but separate campsite next door as well which we did not know about until visiting. The McMillan Way footpath passes this adjoining campsite so lovely walks can be had.The pub is on a busy junction of the A436 and the A44 so there is traffic noise and it does make a right turn out of the pub entrance very difficult so just turn left and double back when convenient. The pub was nicely decorated fairly recently by the look of it in a contemporary style. We ate in the snug and the pub was happy to allow dogs inside which was great and very different from the Red Lion in neighbouring Little Compton who when we went in said they did not allow dogs inside but were annoyed that the owners two dogs followed us out of the bar double standards there!Food in the Greedy Goose was very good. My wife thought her steak was one of the nicest she had eaten and had the same on the following evening. It was served with sautéed potatoes and fine green beans which was a nice change. I had Thai curry which was excellent and a vegetarian curry the following night which again was really good and would only have been improved with pilau rather than short grain white rice. We shared desserts both nights and I would say the food was very reasonably priced. The staff were extremely friendly and gave the stay that little extra that would make us return. Thanks especially to Cora who our dog Woody thought was lovely too!"

"We visited The Plough on two consecutive nights on the basis of reviews and because we could walk from where we were staying in Kelmscott. Neither experience was great. First night we both made the mistake of having the Double Gloucester cheese soufflé. Let 's just say this was not what we expected a cheese soufflé to be. It was more like a steamed pudding in a bowl of cheese sauce with grilled cheese on top! Neither of us could finish it and it gave my wife such bad indigestion that she couldn 't eat any of her rather greasy chicken escalope main course. Avoid at all costs. The second night we both opted for the steak frites. This was passable but the meat had obviously been standing for a while as the beure café de paris on top was not melting, it was so cold. We were hungry so couldn 't be bothered to send it back but we did query it as the plates were being cleared. The message came back from the kitchen that there had been no delay . But that just sums the place up. The waiting staff had no idea what they were doing and took an age to do anything. We ordered sparkling wine as an aperitif (once I had found the wine list for myself! and this was left for several minutes where we could see it going flat before anyone bothered to bring it to the table. We ordered wine to go with the mains and we had to ask for it again as we were at risk of finishing eating before it arrived! To summarise, set your expectations low and you might have a nice time and avoid the cheese soufflé."

"My wife 's sister her husband booked a table at the Old Swan for the four of us as we recently celebrated our 41st Anniversary, both our birthdays. She thought it would be a nice surprise, so we weren 't told where we were going. It was a surprise, all right! We arrived in good time, although the (large) car park had some cars in it, we were aware that there seemed to be few people around. The day was cold, there was a thin layer of snow on the ground, although all main roads were clear. Entering the pub, we were greeted by a young man, who took us into a rustic, beamed restaurant. We sat at one table, but my sister in law quickly found that her seat sloped, she was constantly sliding towards the table, so we moved mercifully near a radiator. There was a huge fireplace in the room, but no fire in the grate, so we felt quite cold whilst we were there. We had a bottle of fizz, looked at the menu, which was one card, plus a supplementary 'festive ' menu. We didn 't want starters, there were a few items on the mains list, but mostly it was pie of various fillings. I chose the 'festive ' one, the other 3 all chose different ones. We waited quite a while for the food to appear, it wasn 't because the kitchen was terribly busy, as we were the only diners in the restaurant! On arrival, my pie was topped with an overdone pig in a blanket, I 'm still not sure what was under the crust. All plates comprised a pie, some mash some kale. We 'd ordered minted peas, they, any other vegetable came as a side dish, with suitable price attached. I thought that the pie was very ordinary, at over £17, quite expensive for something that probably cost a fiver, at most. The kale was stringy, difficult to cut. The ladies chose a pudding each, but my brother in law I just had a beer. After that, we had some coffee. We asked why there were so few diners, were told that they 'd had 25 cancellations that day, they put the non attendances down to the weather. That was a little odd, as we 'd driven several miles to get there, with no problems. The toilets were clean serviceable. About 41 years ago, I took my then fiancee to the Old Swan, which was then reckoned to be somewhat exclusive, rather expensive, so we were interested to see what it was like now, which is where the disappointment kicked in. Not great, I 'm afraid, it won 't survive if customers don 't feel they 're getting value for money, as there 's just too much competition in the catering sector. I don 't know what the meal cost in total, as it was paid for by my Sister In Law. Were unlikely to return, or recommend."
