"My wife I visited Ischia for our 10 year anniversary. We came in late on our first day, very hungry, we figured Ischia Porto was promising for a quick bite to eat. We were not expecting much but were hoping to find a hidden gym. Did we ever! We ate on the courtyard while two guys played guitar. An old man, the owner Andrea, was playing a tambourine. We knew this was the places for locals when we saw the chef greet a few guests that arrived after us like you greet an old friend. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted. My wife had gnocchi (the best bite of food I've ever had in my life). I had a pizza with buffalo mozzarella (if anyone ever asks you if you want buffalo mozzarella the answer is always: yes). The food took awhile to arrive (15-20 minutes) because it is made fresh...totally worth the wait) The staff (all family) is very friendly, warm, welcoming. However, in true Italian form, a meal is to be experienced, not just consumed. So they will not bring the bill until you ask. Everything was so wonderful we came back the next night for appetizers drinks after we enjoyed a fine dining dinner elsewhere. We stayed til 1am singing and dancing. We learned that at Andrea's being serenaded is not a spectator sport. You sing even if you don't know the words. They don't make you; the atmosphere makes you want to (I am quiet reserved, but willingly stood up in front of everyone as part of a skit, I don't speak Italian). We entered hungry, we left with hearts belly's full. We wanted food, we got an out of this world dining experience, made new friends (staff guests from Ischia, Roma, Milan, Barcelona, Brazil). We can't wait to come back!"
