"Madame and I have stayed at a nearby hotel at several points over the last dozen or so years, but for some reason had not visited this restaurant, despite scoping its menu fairly often. This time, however, we visited for a Tuesday lunch, and then...for dinner a week later. The results were strikingly inconsistent a great lunchtime experience, and a dinner that did the establishment little credit of any sort. The lunch was good, though, so let's start there: we shared grilled vegetables, and then I had pasta while Madame ordered a small pizza. We shared a 50 cl pot-de-vin, and a bottle of San Pellegrino. All items were really good, arrived promptly, and were accompanied by friendly service, despite a fairly busy lunchtime situation. We enjoyed the lunch so much that we promised ourselves we'd come back for a simple dinner on the night before our departure. We arrived early, and were seated promptly; a salume platter shared between us made a fine starter. But things went rapidly downhill after that. The restaurant again became busy, but not stunningly so; still, we and our order of a Quattro Stagioni pizza were completely forgotten. A variety of beseeching looks and types of body language produced no pizza, and some of the guests near us began to notice that they'd come in later and had been served while we were looking at an empty tabletop. Finally, our repeated efforts to get someone's attention paid off, and he went skittering off to the kitchen; a while later (by now we'd been in the place for nearly an hour and were reduced to nursing the dregs of our wine) he returned with a pizza that had obviously been thrown together in haste. Toppings were loaded up on one side, but more or less absent on the other; one quadrant of the crust had neither sauce nor cheese. We edited the thing as best we could, but also let the staffer (same one who'd had our table for our lunch a week before) know we were not happy with what we'd been served, and some at neighboring tables told us we were right to complain. We were civil about the whole thing but the reactions we got seemed to reflect a complete lack of interest. We finished quickly, and had no dessert cutting our losses and on the way out Madame mentioned some of our complaints again, and for her trouble got shouted at sarcastically as she left the restaurant. What seemed to be a manager was witnessing all of this but did nothing. We think of ourselves as restaurant veterans and, over the past forty-plus years, have seen many situations get all pear-shaped. We try to understand the situations staffers have to deal with, and are never obnoxious or contentious in making complaints when we must. The problems with our dinner were far from the worst we've seen, but the lack of interest, followed by overt nastiness, that we experienced at Alfredo Positano were really out of line. We left the place really disappointed, and are unlikely ever to come back."
