"We visited Saint Generoux, last weekend, out of season, and despite the fact that it was a Sunday lunchtime we couldn 't get any answer at all from the 'auberge de vieux pont ' which actually faces the old medieval bridge mentioned in the restaurant 's name. But we looked at the menu which is prominently displayed outside the front door and were very frustratingly tempted by it. Not too expensive either. There is space to park the car, and if you wanted to bring your own picnic, for instance, it is possible to go down to the river beneath the old bridge and wander along the waterside and find somewhere attractive to sit and eat. I wish I could report more about the 'auberge de vieux pont ' but there were no contact details given outside the restaurant or none that we could see or find, and I had the impression which could well be wrong that the establishment is no doubt excellent in itself but only open at certain times. Perhaps the owners want to keep it a secret. If they did, I could well unerstand why it is such a beautiful location, but sharing with other people is surely the spice of life."

Have eaten here a few times whilst holidaying and for me find it much better and more welcoming than anything in the area. Great food and the owners are lovely people. I would recommend trying this restaurant to anybody.

Situated in a pretty village by the river this is auberge is worth a detour. A recent 4 course lunch was very good and excellent value at 11e including a palatable rose. The service was provided with a smile by a very pleasant lady.

We went whilst we were on holiday around Deux-Sevres and couldn't help going a second time before the end of our holiday as it was so good! Very relaxed and friendly and the food was wonderful. Will be going again next time we are in the area.

We had a really good Sunday lunch here. The food, mostly from local produce, was very good. The house wine was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive. Couldn't ask for more. Since we frequently spend time in nearby Airvault we intend to be regular customers from now on.

"Au Bon Acceuil in French means 'To a Good Reception '. When I walked in off the street to see if it was possible to book a table for two for Sunday lunch, the reception was negative. From what I could see, it looks a nice place with the menu given in English as well as French. There were good kitchen smells on the air, but that is as close as I 've got to sampling anything.! The location is of great historic interest, photogrenic and picturesque. A large eleventh century church (recently restored) has great presence but (rather like the restaurant) you can 't actually get inside it unless you can find someone local who has a key! The church is surrounded by the ruins of an even older convent and an early medieval footbridge for carts and cattle still exists, spanning the river, and you can walk across it. But watch out for the uneven, ancient stones. The area just outside the little village is seriously blighted by wind turbines but they are not so apparent when you are in the village and near the church and the ruins, not to mention that very tempting little bilingual restaurant known as 'Au Bon Acceuil '. Maybe one day it will be possible to get in. They are clearly very popular with their local clients and other people from nearby but I would suggest they seriously consider serving morning coffee and afternoon tea for grateful tourists passing through. Just a thought, 'Au Bon Acceuil '.."
