Cafe Rouge Wokingham

Lovely lunch, service slow but food was lovely... even my fussy husband was pleased with what he ate!

Cafe Rouge appears to have improved lately. Have been three times in quick succession and enjoyed it every time.

We arrived about 1210. We ordered about 1220. Meal arrived 1300. Service was a bit slow. Did the chef come in late? Was there not enough staff? The poulet Breton did not have much taste. My wife's meal was OK.

We had a lovely evening celebrating my 50th birthday although we were very surprised to be the only table in the restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday night! there were a few people sitting outside for some of the evening.

Despite having a reservation accepted by bopen table when we aarived at the restaurant we were told it was fully booked and turned away. We only used opentable after ringing 3 times and getting no reply after 5minutes each time. Not good customer service!

Appalling service slow, coffees thrown over the tray, forgotten meals.... Nir enough staff in for a busy Father's Day brunch. Had to ask to have a deduction on the bill even though they knew we had received appalling service. Manager tried to make things better but too little, too late. Won't be back as second time service has not been great there.

It was particularly busy when we visited in the evening but that might be because the majority of people had 50% off vouchers. With this in mind they should staff accordingly as there were only 4 staff in a huge practically full restaurant. The staff that were there were great as we asked to move tables due to hygiene of another customer. My only grumble is the 50 minute wait for our 5oz minute rump steak frites!!

The food was not as good as I would have hoped for . The crab starter was bland and would have benefited from the inclusion of some brown crab meet. The bouillabaisse was not as good as we have had at Café Rouge. The contents were Ok but the flavour was lacking. The final course was fine . It is a shame that no typically English beer is stocked as many are available bottled (i.e. Tanglefoot from badgers, Abbot from green King and London Pride from Fullers.and have an extended shelf life). The service was very good and the staff helpful. I have a personal dislike of paper serviettes.

We have been here before and enjoyed the cote de Boeuf, and have also enjoyed the Reading restaurant. We decided to celebrate my wife's birthday here with family and were a little disappointed. We did have a problem with the slow service which is why I have marked it down to 3 stars. I don't like to do this because the waiter and waitress were very polite and pleasant but we were waiting for some time to place the first drinks order, so long in fact that I had to go and find the waitress. As the restaurant wasn't busy, we were very surprised at how long our food order took to come through, which did spoil our experience to a degree and did cause a fair bit of discontent at the table.
