"As part of a three night dinner, b n b. The food was reasonable and varied, some good points, some not so. Each meal time you got some pre dinner nibbles, a couple of them for each person, out of the six I tried, perhaps one was not tasty. A starter, soup or sorbet, a main and a pudding. Standard stuff for the starters, the pigeon was okay, ham hock likewise. No soup as it was very warm, so we tried all the sorbets, pleasant they were, zesty n fresh. The mains I tried were a trout dish that was a bit, meh! Lacking flavour, so a bit bland. However the venison was super tasty, the meat was very nicely cooked and tender. Ditto for a lamb dish, the meat nicely cooked and again tender. There was plenty of accompaniments. If you are the hungry type there are extras at a small additional charge. The pudes were all very standard, nothing jumped out, but all were well noshed. Meringues and ice creams, cheese platters etc... The breakfasts were excellent. The full bifta was very nice. The usual sausage, bacon etc. All very nice. There was plenty of fish, porridge n cereals, fruit juices, fruit etc. Enough to set yer up for the day."

A very pleasant stay. The staff are exceptional and the food is first class. The area has lots of history and good beaches nearby. The hotel has very good facilities and lots of interesting features. Easy to access, just off the A75

Visited here with my boyfriend for my birthday yesterday for afternoon tea. It was lovely, good value for money and the staff were lovely. Worth a visit : The only thing I would personally like is more savoury food rather than sweet and the scones were a little dry.

Great stay at this hotel, full of old world charm. Staff couldn't do enough to help. The ground were well kept with plenty of walks. The pool was a good size. The food both at breakfast and dinner was innovative and delicious. Would definitely stay again if in the area

Had afternoon tea here on Tues 20th Aug with daughter, granddaughter (15) and grandson (5). Cant praise it enough. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were super friendly and my 5 year old grandson even got his own sandwiches made to order. Excellent value for money. Cant wait to return.

We visited as part of a family birthday celebration in August. We have been a couple of times before when visiting the area for drinks. We had afternoon tea booked which was set out ready for our arrival. Plenty of space for us all and friendly staff. The afternoon tea itself was delicious with plenty of choice to choose from. We all took leftovers home which was great too. Great surroundings, wonderful food and friendly staff make the hotel a lovely place to visit for a special occasion.

Scruffy place. Waited 15 minutes on queue for drinks two servers, one of which spent the whole 15 minutes talking to a couple who bought 4 glasses of coke. Uncleared tables galore. Went back at 2215. Staff said the were closing at 2230 but did nothing to serve drinks. Mannager CE out said were shut "at my discretion mo staff. Manager surly no charm or people skills. Website says open until 2300 They cancelled breakfast booking at 12 hours notice despite advertising it online Avoid like the plague.

Cally Palace is a lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. The room was comfortable and clean although some of the features are a little dated and shabby. You get a good breakfast with plenty of choice and the evening meal was excellent though a little pricey unless you go for the dinner B B option. The waiting staff are brilliant but the reception staff need to up their game. Unfriendly unsmiling unhelpful for this I have knocked a star off. They could hardly be bothered to give us directions to our room, we found it ourselves. I was stood at the desk for ages before I was even acknowledged. It was the same at checkout, no manners at all.

We were staying with an old friend for the Easter weekend at her nearby holiday house and so suggested that we might take her our for a really nice lunch on Easter Sunday. About two weeks prior to our visit she had had phoned the Cally Palace Hotel and booked a table for 3 in the restaurant at 1.00pm. The member of staff taking the call had not made any other comment than to confirm the date and time. As we arrived at this magnificent building on a sunny day, our expectations rose. Even the lukewarm welcome from the girl on Reception did not dampen our hopes. Imagine our surprise and utter disappointment when we were told at the bar that there were only a small range of sandwiches available,...

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
