"My family dined at a table outside in front of the restaurant. Our table was assigned a number, so when we placed our order at the counter, they knew where to bring our food. Two of us shared the mackerel and leek quiche and the classic cullen skink meals. We enjoyed drinks and the beautiful view as we waited for our food. The quiche arrived at room temperature, but when I asked a server about it, she explained that was how it was served. She kindly offered to heat it up for me, which I appreciated. The salad was fresh and tasty, accompanied by a side of creamy coleslaw and chips (similar to French fries). The chips were crispy and delicious. The cullen skink was like a rich potato soup with thin slices of potato, leeks, and smoked haddock. It was served with bread and butter. While nothing stood out as exceptional, everyone in my party enjoyed their meals. The staff was friendly and efficient, and we had a lovely evening in a charming small town in Scotland."

Excellent pub selling local real ale. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Will be returning again this evening to sample what looks like a delicious and varied menu.

Stopped in Sunday, sat outside as it was glorious, had to go into order. Food was better than ok but not outstanding, good range o f beers and a few fizz cocktails. scampi, fish n chips, chilli wrap, cod loin “au poivre” , Bellini, small wine, zero alcohol lager and pint Maybe a tad overpriced but food was cooked nicely.

my wife and I were in portpatrick for a few nights and came to dinner for this night. the food was delicious. steak and ale pudding, thai curry and the fish and chips were all fantastic. nice friendly staff and everyone who sat around us have spoken. go back to any case, both nights we wanted to pudding the sticky toffe, but would not have done it. The food at this restaurant is excellent, particularly the seafood platter which features lobster, langoustines, rollmops, prawn cocktail, crab claws, mussels, smoked salmon, and salmon fillets. After enjoying this fantastic dish, head next door to the pub for lively entertainment and a great atmosphere with friendly staff. Overall, I can't fault it - the experience was just excellent.

great hotel. room was nice and cleaned every day and tea/coffee, bathroom towels filled every day if necessary. management and staff really nice and friendly. breakfast (that is included) was really excellent and evening meal was fantastic and cheap. hotel bar area really busy both afternoon and evening with people with drinks or meals and drinks, so shows them how popular it is. would recommend a stay here.

very nice pub from the harbour. we sat after a beautiful coast (we had it deserved and enjoyed the sun and a few drinks. While we didn't eat here because we were there, we saw the food we saw very nice and there were certainly many people who enjoy it. as it was winter when we visited, there was only one hand pulled beer, but it was excellent and I could certainly have enjoyed some more when the time allowed. Went for dinner which was very average. Menu and food is very My ‘Deep Fried Chicken’ had a catering coleslaw; it’s easy to make a decent fresh coleslaw? The frozen chicken breast is deep fried like a chip shop, it wasn’t pleasant and tasted of crease. My husband faired better with the cod which he said was average. My ‘luxury ice cream’ wasn’t so with sugared cream and the brandy snap basket, the fresh seasonal fruit was quarters of strawberry. Surroundings to match. This place doesn’t need to make an effort to make money so they don’t!

I spent a fun weekend in Portpatrick last year and am excited to return at the end of this month. We started off at The Crown on Friday night and decided to explore other pubs for food and drinks during the weekend. We had dinner at The Crown on Saturday and stayed until the end of the night for drinks and entertainment. On Sunday, we had lunch at The Crown, went for a walk, had a drink at another pub (whose name I can't remember), but ended up back at The Crown for Sunday night. Overall, The Crown is a fantastic pub with friendly staff, good prices, and a lot of fun!

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."

"Mount Stewart Hotel Portpatrick First of all can I just say that this review is for both the Hotel and restaurant, not just the restaurant which is what tripadviser is asking about, My wife and I checked in on 18/7/22 for two nights dinner bed and breakfast, our initial impression was that the hotel was at the top of a steep road up from Portpatrick Main Street. With only a few parking places at the front, however there is resident parking at the back of the hotel but you then have to carry your bags down a hill at the side of the hotel to enter at the front not a problem but if elderly or infirm could be difficult. It would be sensible to unload at the front and then park at the back of the hotel, if there is no parking at the front, however when you first arrive you don’t know that there is no entrance at the back or anything about the hotel, so first tip would be dump your bags then park the car. On entering the Hotel we were greeted by a welcoming pleasant nice reception person young lady who quickly processed our admission and explained the layout and arrangements for meals etc, good start. We were located in the Wallace room which on the web site is listed as almost a suite, no exaggeration we loved it, a large room with double bed, good sized wardrobe a courtesy mini bar tea and coffee making facilities with a kettle and kenco coffee machine, a large tv never on a large en-suite shower room. In the en-suite there is dormer window this opens and has a pull down blackout blind built into it for privacy from the houses behind it takes a wee bit of fiddling to sort it .Best bit in the room was the window seat with a fantastic view over Portpatrick and the Irish Sea, I cannot express the pleasure we had watching boats coming and going from Portpatrick harbour simple pleasures And the window fully opened to allow air into the room, during the hottest two days of 2022 this was important and needs to be mentioned. On night one we headed down for dinner looking forward to a bit of fine dining and were directed into of all places the breakfast room to be seated at our table I think this is used for residents dining but I feel the room is a bit lacking in atmosphere We asked for a change of table to the bar area with a window table, this was sorted everything was great. Based on our two dinners in the hotel I would have to give the kitchen the thumbs up, the food was good and the service was chatty and friendly all good. Breakfast was well cooked with plenty of choice for cooked options there was cereal and fruit juice to help yourself to but no fresh fruit or yoghurt I found this unusual in a four star hotel. The only niggles I have are to do with the room we were in, there is a large burn in the carpet where someone I think has put the hairdryer down , the window in the main room is difficult to operate because of a rusted locking plate making the mechanism catch, the shower room door has no lock and no door catch so does not stay closed, we had to use a paper wedge to keep the door closed for a modicum of privacy, also an idiot sheet to explain the working of the dormer window would be helpful as most people wil never have had to operate one of these things. On our last morning my wife had a long lie then tried to take a shower only to find that there was no water, I went downstairs to find that there were only some breakfast staff in the hotel, they were very helpful and checked to see if there was any empty rooms, unfortunately there were none, the lady I was talking to explained that the water system in the hotel meant if others were using their shower there wouldn’t be enough pressure to get water to the top floor namely ours, so my wife used bottled water to clean her teeth and then we waited to see if the water pressure built up enough for her to take a shower this was a real adventure, eventually a trickle started then a real shower was had and equilibrium was restored, I found out later that a plumber was in and I take it had fixed whatever the problem had been. Please do not see these things as anything major, we really loved our stay at this"
