"It is a cold, rainy day in Toulouse. We dropped someone at the airport then headed to a restaurant that was supposed to be open all afternoon. As we arrived (just after 2:00) we were told that service for dejeurner was finished. Though disappointed at...the time, we are now thrilled because just around the corner, we saw Cafe Navarre, in a lovely old cross-timber building. We were warmly greeted and assured that we could have lunch...and what a wonderful lunch it was. There was a warm fire in the grill, which took the chill out if the air. The server quickly brought numerous starters, and told us about the main plat de jour (poulet Basque), showed us where to slice bread, and the location of the dessért table. Accompanied by a bottle of wine, we tucked into the excellently seasoned pate de compagne, carrots rapee, lentils, and crunchy bread. It felt like we were dining with a French grandmere. The dishes are eclectic, the tables open for others, and the staff friendly. We were well past the lunch hour but not once did we feel rushed to finish. Quite the opposite. Each dessert (I sampled them all) was superbly French and beautifully executed. Prunes Agen in a spicy sweet red wine sauce, bread pudding with hazelnuts, almond cake, flan, mousse au chocolate, and more! Bring your appetite and enjoy a leisurely meal in this fantastic restaurant highly populated by locals."

What a lovely place and what experience!! Like eating in someone's house. Lovely food, friendly staff, interesting and definitely new experience for us to share table with strangers, but how nice. Very sad to have now left Toulouse, would definitely be back.

I thank the team of chez navarra for their flexibility and greeting! as said: for everything else, no change: still very good quality of food, it was really delicious. and this type of restaurant is just perfect for meeting how we organize how it is. so uncomplicated. sit down and enjoy the appetizers, and then help them to suppe, main dish, cheese and dessert.

Alain is a really nice owner. The restaurant wants to make you feel as if you were going to your grandparents for dinner. Unmatching plates and glasses, benches instead of chairs, the feeling when coming in is definitly unusual. However the quality of the food...and wine is there and the staff friendly. Good evening but I don't think everyone would like it and I would not go there often.

we went through this restaurant several times before we stopped looking at the menu, and then booking for dinner. it was a quiet evening so that the four of us were alone at the table; it would have been fun sharing a table with others. what a good opportunity to try a lot of Tuulousian food! all the dishes were good, the cassoulet was just out of the many, and bee and dessert ended a wonderful meal. and the price was very reasonable, even with a bottle of wine. we want back!

Chez Navarre is closed. We made reservations on a Monday for the coming Friday. When we arrived with two kids, one grandmother from the US and grandparents from the UK, the restaurant was dark even though we were 10 minutes late for our reservation. The...restaurant next door told us that Chez Navarre had been sold on Tuesday and that people had been showing up all week for reservations that could not be honored. Poorly done Chez Navarre! Try finding a restaurant that will take a table of 7 at 8:45pm on a Friday!

visited with friends living in toulouse and recommended this restaurant. absolutely great place where they join or people who have never met, in a multiple building style tables in how the interior of a rural French escaping area. that was great, you help yourself and you can do a little or as little as you want. an absolute jewel of an place and worth money. a great concept and much better than the expensive nonsense served by restaurants in the center of toulouse, which are supposed to be French cuisine. I would suggest the booking to avoid disappointment.

Visited early January, so unsure if I was inflicted by new ownership. All I can say is **** brilliant'! The terrine was rich and savoury. Judging by the chocolate colour probably enhanced by blood. I had to stop myself having a 3rd helping to...save room. Soft boiled eggs and cured fish (trout were also pretty good. The main course was pork roast, which wasn't bad. But I actually preferred the ham broth based vegetable soup smokey and savoury. I had 3 helpings of the soup. The house Corbiere wasn't too bad but it's purpose was more to aid digestion! A novel experience on a shared table.

we came over chez navarra when we were looking for someone in the night of the 26th to eat was when many places were closed! the 25€ per person set menu was excellent. there was a selection of winter salads (beetroot, lenses, cabbage) all very. tasty, creamy soup, bone and flower carburin followed by a selection of cheese and desserts. in the night we visited, it was buffet style and they could taste many different dishes. I'm not sure they even à la carte! but we were not disappointed. the interieur is beautiful with wooden walls and exposed brick, the perfect cozy winter place! the wine was good (22€ a bottle) and we were all very satisfied with our experience in our first night in toulous...

The name may be the same, the plates, the family style, BUT the quality is not. We were VERY disappointed. The spirit and quality of the place apparently left with its old owner, Jerome Navarre. The large slate bar menu of artisanal beer, apéritifs and...digestifs is gone. The pathetic option Leffe in a bottle. Really?! I can buy that at the corner Monop'. The food lacks the attention to detail the lentil salad just isn't as good and seems lacking, the carottes rapés are soggy and taste like they are from Carrefour. Where is the bit of cilantro, the small attention to detail that made this cuisine de grand-mère delicious and satisfying?? Gone, too, is the large tub of delicious soft boiled e...
