"We went to Cockcliffe Hotel on a Tuesday noon for my men's birthdays with 2 friends. The place is clean, but quite shottig run down in need of a lot of tlc. We arrived at 12.30 for a pre-booked lunch. There was no one at the reception, but we just waited a few minutes before a young lady appeared to us at the restaurant that was empty at that point. She was very attentive; Take coats, bring menus, etc. After reading on review pages that people have enjoyed lunch menus we were disappointed to discover that there is only the a la carte menu available, and not many choice on this. We had no appetizers than, from the 4 elections, there was nothing we fascinated. There were 4 or 5 choices of the main meal our selected main meal after approx. 15-20 minutes, with which 2 more couples had arrived. I had salmon, the other three in our party had the chicken cake. There were no vegetables or potatoes with the cakes, these had to be bought separately for £2.50 per. My salmon came with a selection of vegetable potatoes. The whole food was delicious: hot, perfectly cooked and, although it didn't seem to be much on the plates with the cakes (the home made full filling, and came in individual dishes) there was enough for my companions along with the additional dishes of frits they had ordered. If they had been big eaters, they should have ordered vegetable dishes. None of us loved the bad selection of sweets offered. Overall for the 4 of us for a 1 course meal, bottle of wine 2 beers we paid £65.0. Although we all enjoyed what we had, I will not come back until the place was decorated, the menu has a better choice, so unfortunately I could not recommend Cockcliffe Hotel currently."

I can safely say I'm getting very bored with Italian restaurants at the moment.

The dining room had a touch of elegance, with beautifully set tables. The attentive staff went above and beyond to cater to our needs, bringing us plenty of tea and coffee. The sandwiches were top-notch, the scones were freshly baked, and the desserts were unique and delicious. We definitely plan to return and will be sure to recommend this place to our friends.

I recently visited this restaurant and was impressed by the diverse menu selection. The food was tasty, but unfortunately the seating area was uncomfortably hot and musty, possibly due to it being the hottest day of the year. I would recommend choosing a cooler day to dine here. The service was a bit lacking, and the bread (sourdough) and fish were enjoyable. The chips were a bit soggy, which was disappointing. Overall, it was an okay experience, but not one I would necessarily repeat.

We gave this restaurant a rating of 4.5 stars, but it deserves a full 5. We had dinner there on a Sunday and it was delicious and highly recommended. The location is hidden from the busy traffic, making it quiet and somewhat hard to find. There are plenty of parking spaces in the rural surroundings. The restaurant has a separate bar and impressive, spacious wedding facilities. Some reviewers suggest adding more toast to the excellent pate, and feel that the online menus may be a bit too fancy. Overall, we recommend stopping by for a morning coffee or booking a pleasant meal. Visualizza piatti

we visited a high time and stayed overnight. the negative are that not enough places were set for the breakfast, although it was pre-cooked, then the breakfast was ordered differently, our chalet floor had not chopped spilled stains and there was no welcome package to heat or breakfast etc. to explain. but apart from that, it is a beautiful place, the staff was friendly and remained under pressure, and the hospitable, the whole high time ran smoothly. our bed and main room was clean and warm with a lot. the boiler could want a small note to keep the outlet from the mirror as the steam damaged the frame. many thanks for a beautiful event and visit.

Really enjoyed the three course meal.Attended early evening on the 22/12/2015.I would rate the starter and desert as 5 out of 5 and the main as 4 out of 5.My food choices were caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, sea bass followed by chocolate Torte with rasberries. All the dishes were full of flavour ,i have rated the seabass as only 4 out of 5 as did not enjoy this quite as much as the other courses. Service and food excellant,we attended the restaurant at the same time of year the previous year and found it equally enjoyable. At £25 for 3 courses i think its good value when you consider the quality of the food , the excellant service and ambience in the restuarant. We will definately be r...

"We booked here for a group of 17 people for lunch. All of us preordered beforehand and there was a mix of dietary requirements. Firstly, service was lacking, not very attentive, no check throughout the meal either, the server was very nice but not knowledgable on questions asked. Waiting times were incredibly long, for a three course meal we were still waiting for desserts three hours after arriving. Several people had to leave and cancel their desserts due to the long wait. About an hour or so wait between courses. I had the starter of sweet chilli cauliflower which was delicious, very well cooked and spiced. For main I had the Jerusalem artichoke ravioli, along with four other people in the group, unfortunately this was inedible. The ravioli had been cooked to a soft mush, there was no filling in most of the parcels, the watery sauce was so salty that it really was beyond unpleasant. Everyone who had this dish left some, or all, of the meal. Some of the other diners were unimpressed with their Christmas dinner, especially considering quite a high price point. One diner was given the wrong dish and by the time the correct meal was brought out the rest of the group had finished. When it came to staff taking away plates there was no mention of the left food. One of the diners raised the issue regarding the ravioli dish and was advised it would be fed back. All of us were charged full price for the meals at the till. I declined to pay for mine, as at £15 and half a ravioli parcel eaten, I was not prepared to pay for it. They did accept this and deducted it from my bill, I do feel however this should have been offered when full plates of food had been returned. I did not have a dessert as the vegan option was unfortunately just ice cream. Those that did really enjoyed their desserts however and they were a good size portion, particularly the crumble. Although for me just having had the cauliflower starter, and no breakfast, I left there pretty hungry and nearly fours later! The pub itself and the location is lovely. Not sure if it was just an off day and they were overwhelmed, but based on this experience today I sadly wouldn’t return."

"I went there for Christmas dinner with my partner and we had a horrible experience will never go again. My partner had steak which was lovely but the chips, onions, sauce and other accompaniments were cold. I had traditional turkey the only edible thing was the carrots and turkey! The roast potatoes were hard as rock and seemed either overcooked or cooked from frozen. The parsnips I couldn’t cut, cauliflower was hard and the pigs in blanket was so hard it couldn’t be cut. There wasn't even a yorkshire pudding. We complained just about mine and they brought me a new one but that was worse. In the end I only ate a few carrots and some turkey. I complained again when he came to ask how it was again. He said he would ask manager to come over, he took 15/20 mins in meantime my psrtmer had eaten his steak and I was just sat there. The manager offered to let us have our 1 drink each free plus one more round. I was grateful they had offered but it had still spoiled my Christmas and I was emotional as I work every year as a nurse on Christmas Day and cook when I get in (for 40 years) this was the only time I had been out for christmas dinner. It took 50 mins to clear our plates. I just wanted to go home but we had dessert to eat so I had that it was nice but was described as Eton Mess but it was just a big meringue with a dollop of cream on and about 2 strawberries chopped up no sauce at all. The server was nice but we couldn’t get anyone’s attention to get a drink even though we were the last sitting and the kitchen was closed, it wasn’t that busy. I am disappointed and even though they tried to help me it wasn't enough, when we paid £90 each. They warm everything up in the microwave I think apart from meat and fish that’s what it tasted like anyway."
