"We headed straight to the pool and were lucky to find only three sunbeds available. We stayed by the pool until noon since we couldn't access the relaxation rooms. Two of us went for treatments, and I must say, mine was lovely and the therapist was fantastic. However, we had to get dressed again for lunch, which is a bit inconvenient on a spa day, though the lunch itself was really nice. We tried the relaxation rooms again but found no available beds. We returned to the pool, but again, no beds were free. We ended up sitting outside on the available loungers, wrapped in robes and towels, for about 45 minutes. When we checked back at the pool, there were still no beds, but we finally found three free in the relaxation room. Unfortunately, our time there wasn’t very relaxing, as people constantly came in and out to check for available beds or to use the sauna. Ultimately, we left quite early and were very disappointed with the facilities. It felt like the spa couldn’t handle the influx of hotel guests, gym members, and spa day visitors. Since this was meant to be a special treat for my daughters—one of whom is five months pregnant—we ended up feeling that it was a stressful and unfulfilling use of our time and money."

I haven't actually stayed here but felt inclined to make a comment. I need a room for three (three ladies) for a Christmas party at the hotel and overnight stay. Was advised it wouldn't be a problem and three in a room would require us a bigger room at £40 extra. On trying to book was told we needed to bring our own third bed!!!!! Was asked if we have a blow up bed we could bring along!!! Won't be booking I'm afraid!

As for the rooms, they are in poor condition and require a deep clean. On the positive side, the food and drinks are of excellent quality; I can't fault them there. However, the spa areas are also in disrepair, with woodwork that is flaking and shower tiles that are dirty, featuring black mold on the grout. Additionally, the showers and tiles in the pool changing rooms have a brown color from rust. The floors are quite dirty as well. Overall, cleanliness is definitely not at a 4-star level—I'd rate it more like 2 or 3 stars. The rooms deserve a 2-star rating. Visualizza piatti

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and the staff were very accommodating. The rooms were comfortable and met all our needs. We dined at the restaurant, which had an oddly quiet atmosphere, but the food was outstanding. We also took advantage of the pool and spa facilities. The pool was at a pleasant temperature, and the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms were all in working order. My only complaint was that some guests left their towels on the lounge chairs without actually using them, making it difficult for my group to sit together and relax. The treatments were efficient rather than indulgent, but the relaxation rooms were excellent. Overall, I would definitely consider returning.

Beautiful location, fabulous service and lovely food. Only downfall was a rude restaurant manager with no managerial skills beyond belittling his clearly new and in training staff loudly in front of customers. Ruined the relaxing vibe and was disgusting behaviour on his part. Insulting staff within earshot of customers, making staff cry from their aggressive verbal abuse and causing a scene quite publicly ruined any tranquility we were having. Terrible manager that honestly needs to be fired in my personal opinion. Turning music off in the bar to have the above argument with staff, again only bringing further attention to the conflict. My party all felt awful for the young girls as they were...

"Husband took me out yesterday on Bank Holiday Monday, to this lovely little country house hotel in Great Baddow, on the outskirts of Chelmsford. The hotel itself appears to comprise of an old house with a number of new additions. There’s an independent swimming club, open to hotel guests comprising of both indoor, and outdoor pools, a restaurant, a conservatory/bar where we took tea, a restaurant, and 35 bedrooms. Parking is easy, especially if you are disabled, and in a wheelchair like me, as there are quite a number of specially marked off spaces. The main part of the hotel is accessed via 2 small steps, (though there is a portable ramp too, apparently . My clever husband ascertained that one could enter the hotel in the wheelchair via the conservatory area, and this obviated the need to climb any steps at all. We announced our presence in the conservatory area to the charming waitress on duty, who we later learned was called Stef. She couldn’t have made us more welcome, and explained the afternoon tea fully, enquiring if we had any dietary needs. Full tea is a very fair £19.50, and it comes prettily arranged on a silver tea stand, with a choice of teas which arrive in pretty individual china tea pots. My husband opted for English Breakfast, whereas I fancied Earl Grey. Hubby was quite thirsty, and Stef asked if he wanted another pot, which she brought speedily, and at no extra charge. Tea comprised of 4 generous finger sandwiches each. These were smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg and cress mayonnaise, grated cheese and pickle, and ham sandwiches. I initially enquired if we could order extra sandwiches at our own cost, (at this price, one wouldn’t expect a free sandwich top up! , and we were told this wouldn’t present any problem. As it so happened, the sandwiches were fresh and so well filled, we didn’t require any more. Of course there were also 2 freshly baked scones each, one plain, and one with fruit, butter, clotted cream, strawberry jam from Tiptree, and the top layer of the tea stand held an assortment of delicious mini cakes and macarons, expertly prepared by the Pontlands Park in house patisserie team. My favourites were the delicately spiced, perfectly moist mini carrot cakes, and the apple macarons. My husband preferred the mixed berry cakes, however. Stef kept popping over to check we were happy, and insisted we pack our leftovers in a takeaway container, as when we called for the bill, it was evident we’d been defeated by the contents of their tea stand. We will most definitely return, and, the sooner the better. It’s not the poshest afternoon tea I’ve ever had, however it was very fairly priced, freshly prepared, and of excellent quality. And, as for service, the lovely Stef couldn’t possibly have done more for us."
