"We booked this restaurant over a month in advance when we realized we would spend our younger son’s birthday in Munich. He is a huge Japanese food esp. Sushi and Sashimi fan and this place looked like it would be great. It is not inexpensive, but it is not outrageous either. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere was wonderful (we sat outside and the weather was amazing). My son very much enjoyed his Sushi. A couple of thoughts on the food and service.1. The food was outstanding at times and okay at times. There was some inconsistency. We had some Black Cod with Miso made Robato (sp.) style which was amazing and melt in your mouth perfect. We had some glazed pork belly where the sauce was so good, I could have eaten a whole bowl of rice with just that as a condiment (and I don’t particularly care for rice) without even having any of the pork belly. We had a nice beef carpaccio, we enjoyed the edamame. My tuna was okay. Frankly I think it was overcooked (it could have been any fish at that point) and the sauce insufficient to make up for the dryness of the fish. We had tuna pizza with crème fraiche (the tuna is sashimi, the bread for the pizza is thin (probably unleavened). It’s a good concept, but I have seen similar concepts executed better. Some wasabi would have been a good add and something sweet (maybe a teriyaki glaze) to set off the tuna would have been good as well. The desserts were excellent, in particular the chocolate fondant with the black sesame ice-cream.2. The service was super efficient. We ordered and the food was at our table in minutes—it was almost too fast. I would say that the service was pleasant but not warm or inviting. This is a nice restaurant and maybe they didn’t care for having kids in the place (we were among the few). Maybe the language barrier created a personal barrier. In my experience—and I do not claim to be an expert on fine dining—it seems like the best places I have ever been to are the ones that focus on making sure that the customer gets a great experience, not just good food and efficient service. I would say that the bit of inconsistency in the food and the fact that the service was adequate rather than memorable dings this place a star. I ding it another because I thought that it was overpriced given the circumstances. I don't see myself going back there, but I would not avoid it either."

We decided that we wanted to go to a Japanese place. For a change. Not to go to a German place. And we were advised this. Right in the center of Munich. With a terrace. The waiter was responsive, trying, English speaking. The service was...More

The setting is fun. It's a great place to sit outside and watch the world go by. But the service was inattentive at best. There was no host at the front to greet diners, and a queue repeatedly formed at the entrance throughout the evening....More

The cool and dark modern atmosphere is great - when you enter Koi. The stylish and hip environment including friendly welcome make it a great start . The food and drinks menu offers great Japanese dishes , which are meant to share . So it's best to order a few of the tempting plates - from starters , soups , salads and delicious sushi and high quality meats, fish etc. Great variety in the cocktail menu make it a great experience. The staff is friendly and is attentive but when the restaurant is full the waiting times increase to a maximum and the service lacks in quality .

Koi looks beautiful from the outside and the nice atmosphere is also something you'll notice once you're seated inside. At first we were well taken care of by polite and friendly staff, however, half way through the meal they forgot all about us. They never cleared our table between the courses and it took a long time to ask for the check, for them to bring the check and then to pay. The food was ok, nothing special. The spicy edamame was nice, whereas the sushi was a disappointment. The fish wasn't fresh and didn't taste much. If the food were better it would be easier to accept the stiff prices. And it didn't help that the toilets were all but clean and tidy. Unfortunately I would not reco...

Poor service and overpriced food i can't recommend anybody to eat there. The setting is nice so that is why we gave it a try . The starters seemed interesting the edamame beans with chili and garlic were fine but the miso soup was way too salty. Most of the main dishes seemed boring at best so we went for a plate of sushi to share, the rice was dry, the fish and seafood, especially the shrimp was not particularly fresh. As far as the service goes the main course arrived way too quickly we were not even close to finish our starters that the plate of sushi was placed on our table. It could have been ok but they never bothered to get rid of the plates from the starters and the table was small s...
