"Hard to resist the smell of Indian food....even if you 're in the middle of gastronomic Lyon, and traditional boucherons are everywhere. We succumbed. The restaurant is cosy and interestingly decorated inside. Service is very friendly. Prices are reasonable. But I 'm afraid I just didn 't find...the food particularly exciting. Perhaps French palates aren 't as used to spicy Indian food as us Brits, but my lamb madras was bland, innocuous, and just well lacking spice. The meat was tender but it wasn 't much more than tepid in temperature either. The other dishes were ok peas potato, Kashmiri rice, fluffy cheesy naan breads, and Gill enjoyed her lamb spinach but overall it didn;t feel authentic enough for me. Perhaps we should have eaten at a boucheron after all....."

The staff are not attentive and the food is not on point. Gloopy and tasteless! Please save your money and go somewhere else ????

We had a pleasant enough meal at Lal Qila. The menu has all the dishes you would find in a "run-of-the-mill" South Asian restaurant in the UK. If you fancy a change from the bouchons of Lyon then it is OK, but it isn't special.

We were really really disappointed by this. We went for dishes were normall order in other restaurants like Kashimir, dishes that we normally love. But portions looked like left-overs and they were really tasteless. We truly felt ripped off.

Lacks a vegetarian menu, but does have a number of veggie options. Tried the veg samosa and veg pakora starters. Both very nice, especially with tasty pickles. Main course for me was tarka dhall, tasty enough, but as usual in France lacking in spice.

You enter a typical indian decor with a lovely smell drawing you in. Being of indian origin, i can say the food tastes just like the real stuff. Great variety of indian food, recommended for couples, friends or groups. Been there like 20 times and still eager to return.

If you are looking an absolutely horrible meal. Rice is watery, curry has no taste at all and nan bread is the size of a coin. Whoever owns this place needs to have a long hard look at themselves. Would never go back ever ever...in a million years. Just so gutted we wasted our money on it. Now have to go to get proper food.

The other Indian restaurant next door was closed so we fell back on this one. The food was not bad at all, but felt like it should have been more tasty, especially for Indian food. It was honestly good, but far from what I've been able to taste in other Indian restaurants elsewhere. The service was okay, but it took ages for them to come and collect the check in spite of nods from the waiters.

"My wife and I dined here on a Saturday night (having made a reservation several days in advance), and it was one of the best dining experiences we have had in France in a long time. We reserved for the early seating, showed up on time, and were among the first customers there. We had a small table near the door. The disadvantage is that we were occasionally wafted by a cold draft from the front door. The bigger advantage was that we were sitting near the restaurant's beautiful, precision, hand-operated meat slicer. The specialty starter is beef that has been cured for seven months with seven spices. It is sliced paper thin (and that is no exaggeration) and served heaped on a plate. Heavenly. My wife and I ordered only one of these plates and it was more than ample for the two of us.That was followed by our starters. I ordered the minestrone marocain légèrement épicé comme à Tanger (Moroccan minestrone, lightly spiced as in Tangiers), and my wife the rillettes de crabe aux petits légumes et Granny Smith (shredded crab with little vegetables and pieces of Granny Smith apple). Both were delicious. For our main dishes I had a pavé de cerf (deer steak), which was ample and perfectly cooked. My wife had fish, also cooked to perfection. I don't recall the wine we ordered, but the choice was from wines that were at their peak (not just wines one or two years old), yet the prices were reasonable. One remark about the decore: it manages to be a bit traditional and modern at the same time, with reproductions of paintings by Modigliani and various early 20th-century (mainly French) artists adorning the wall.Overall, a restaurant worth going out of your way for."
