"We visited today, Sunday 29th October. Ordered two bacon and sausage barms and two pulled beef ciabattas and asked the waiter specifically for one without cheese the waiter later confirmed that we had indeed specified this) When our meal came both ciabattas had a considerable amount of cheese on them so we politely and quietly asked for one to be replaced with one without cheese. From nowhere came the chef/owner shouting and ranting about not changing the menu for ANYBODY. We were absolutely stunned and extremely embarrassed as the cafe was almost full of equally amazed customers. All four of us left our food and went to pay the £55 bill in the shop, whilst in the process of actually paying the bill were harrassed again by the chef who threatened us with the police if we didn’t pay! We have been fairly regular customers here for quite a few years and have recommended it to many friends and were thrilled to find it reopened today. BIG MISTAKE HUGE! This man seriously needs an Anger Management course. Goodness knows what would happen if you asked for a vegetarian or vegan option or had a serious food allergy. AVOID AT ALL COSTS"

Ordered a bacon, sausage and egg roll which was excellent. Three really good bacon rashers, two sausages and two fried eggs in a large roll……very tasty and very good value for money.

One of the young ones need training. Was served by a blue haired girl. Asked for one of the muffins, and even though she tried to use tongs she still finished touching my food with bare hands. Not happy at all.

Breakfasts were unsatisfactory and highly priced. Staff unfriendly and obviously unhappy, as we 're our fellow diners having to listen to the chef swearing at staff! Found out later that this 'bakery ' doesn 't even bake bread !!!!

Not a good experience ordered 2 Pea and Ham soups got 1 Broccoli and Stilton and 1 Pea and Ham no explanation both soups really really salty the Pea and Ham flavour tasted vinegary ? cramped room with a dog at most tables had to stride over a big dog to get to table £15 for 2 salty soups that we could not eat in a cramped room we will give this a miss next time.

I was very excited to hear that the bakery had reopened after an extended closure following Covid. I had always enjoyed my previous visitors but not will not be eating there again. The chef was verbally abusive following a simple request to remove cheese from a sandwich. This caused great distress, anxiety and embarrassment to me and my fellow diners. Deeply disappointed

As regulars we’d like to add a review about the epic food on offer in this delightful tearoom. Among our favourites are the homemade soup roll, rarebit hot beef horseradish ciabatta. Just as you’d want it, very wholesome filling. Not the cheapest in town but worth every halfpenny for the quality. A roaring fire in the Victorian grate warm welcome, just the ticket on a chilly autumn afternoon. Lovely cakes on offer in the bakery too.

Very disappointed with our visit. We were passing and saw the sign saying a nice roaring fire. As we just wanted a drink we went in. Good reception, but the problem was that we ordered a hot chocolate, a peppermint tea and a toasted tea cake. The tea was fine, maybe a bit weak probably a scone tea bag in the pot would have helped. The hot chocolate as tepid at best, and the tea cake was fine when it arrived but by the time that the butter, jam and finallly the knife arrived the tea cake was cold. It took 3 visits to get all elements of the tea cake. Won’t be going there again.

Very upset at the nasty attitude and rudeness of the chef. Our overpriced lunches arrived without butter on the sandwiches, I waited and looked at around for the waiting staff, I couldn 't see them so I approached the kitchen door and caught the chefs eye and said 'excuse me '. He snapped Do not speak to me. I am cooking. Go and find someone else. I said there was no one here. He ignored me. I returned to my dry sandwich, we ate up and left. Would not come here again. He was snapping and snarling with staff also. Maybe he thinks he 's Gordon Ramsey he 's not. Even I can cook soup and a sandwich without being rude to people.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
