"We were staying the weekend and wanted something to eat on a Sunday. Not many places seemed open and luckily we stumbled across New Market Cafe. The food was delicious. Very quickly served by lovely friendly staff. We enjoyed it that much we returned the following day and ordered 2 different meals off the menu. Can definitely recommend eating here. It seemed a lot of regulars visited which is always a great sign. Gorgeous food, lovely staff, clean and friendly. Thank you"

Went in for a bite at lunchtime. Good, friendly service, coffee and a top notch bacon and sausage baguette. Just the job.

Run down and poorly managed. This café desperately needs a revamp. Order was wrong due to a miscommunication and no English speaking staff.

Visited for the first time today. We both had jacket potatoes which were excellent and the coffee was also very good. Overall a very enjoyable lunch. We would definitely visit again.

The breakfast was very good, with good service and friendly staff. The only drawback was that the poached eggs were too hard, but overall it was a great experience. I would definitely return! Visualizza piatti

Coffee was ok but the food is overpriced for what is pretty low quality (all cheap catering standard: white stodgy bread, hard poached eggs, cheap sausages). Morrisons cafe is better value for less.

This cafe is excellent. I had a jacket potato and it was delicious and very reasonably priced. The tea and cappucino we had was also very good. I don't often write reviews but felt this cafe deserves it. If you are in Penrith give it a try.

The restaurant has a friendly staff who speak English, a large menu, and is open on Sundays unlike most places in Penrith. The food is not fancy but reasonably priced and good quality, with great breakfast options available. Well done to the restaurant for being open on Sundays. Visualizza piatti

Found this place by accident after a walk around Penrith's little streets. It looked quite busy (so quite popular) we decided to sit outside as it was hot indoors. They had a huge cake menu which the kids loved. Adults had panini's (cranberry/cheese tuna cheese), garnished with a lovely little salad and coleslaw. The waitress was friendly and welcoming, service quick. Tea for two was generous size! Would love to visit again.

This cafe has an outdoor covered seating area, but they also allow dogs inside. It doesn't matter how good or bad the food is if you are seated next to a large, wet, smelly dog that pants and has bad breath. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will not be returning. I cannot comprehend why the owners permit dogs inside when they have a covered outdoor area. If someone were to contract a tick from a dog, they would surely understand the consequences.

"We had a disappointing experience during our stay. The bedroom was quite cold, and despite asking for the heating to be turned on, we had to sit in our coats. The bathroom was freezing each morning, and the dining room didn't offer much relief either. The heating was activated for just one hour, which meant the radiator was cold again when we returned to our room. Their cost-cutting measures significantly impacted our enjoyment. We raised our concerns multiple times, but there was no one available when we settled the bill. At £100 per night for bed and breakfast (totaling over £200 including dinner), it was frustrating to be so uncomfortable. Another guest mentioned they had complained about the heating during their previous visit, only to be told there was an ongoing issue. It seems they simply won’t turn on the heating. We won’t be returning, especially since it’s quite a drive to get into town. Regarding the room, we were assigned an attic room (Room 8). It had many steep stairs and low headroom in places. While the bathroom was nice, it was also freezing. The towel rail was pointless since it was stone cold, and my husband had to skip his morning shower due to the chill. We ended up moving to Room 7, which was smaller but slightly warmer despite having a cold bathroom. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly, and the lights were all or nothing. The next morning, we moved our belongings back to Room 8 since they finally decided to turn on the electric wall heater—which they could have done from the outset. It only took the chill off for a little while. On our last night, we experienced a brief boost of heat, but it only lasted an hour. When we returned after dinner, the room was already cool again. As for nearby activities, there’s a park across a busy road, but everything else requires driving to reach shops and restaurants. Safety-wise, the hotel faces a main road, and there are very few parking spaces available (around four); otherwise, you need to park on the main road. Walking to town is possible, but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes downhill. In terms of food and drinks, the breakfast was decent. When asked if we wanted toast, we received just one slice on the same plate as the cooked breakfast. After asking for more, we had to wait a while before we were given another slice. Dinner was acceptable but nothing to write home about; it felt overpriced compared to the excellent authentic Indian restaurant we found in town, which served great food at better prices and opened at 5 PM. Overall, I'd recommend bringing warm clothes for both the bedroom and dining area; we even saw another guest sitting in her coat the entire time."
