"After not going into this place since it changed hands ages ago I took my partner in one day to enquire about gluten free food being available. They were in the middle of being refurbished and they said when it was done they would have the biggest working kitchen in Wigan. Also that they would have an EXTENSIVE GLUTEN FREE MENU. So we waited... And not long ago after being gifted Christmas money I suggested going to sample the food there. I rang up, talked to a lady who verified that what I had been told about having a decent number of gluten free options was true and to come in to try. We were informed when asking the staff about these options upon arrival there were tons and all clearly marked out on the menu... After sitting down with our drinks we discovered this was TOTALLY UNTRUE. I asked again if they had a separate menu for this as the only thing labelled was VEGAN and VEGETARIAN options and they apologised saying that one of the staff would show me the dishes (that were not marked on anything as she ate gluten free as a preference) and there were TWO MAIN MEAL OPTIONS. Possibly two starters as I recall. The starter was good, the main which consisted of steak and homemade chips was rather bland. I didn 't finish it. My partner had the Beer Macaroni with Cornbread and was also very disappointed... It was like cake in texture I could see it myself (he said it was sweet and cake like in taste too) and was covered in garlic (this wasn 't I don 't think stated on the menu nor usually part of Cornbread in general)... I was willing to give it a try even though the information given about the vast gluten free menu was not at all true and looked to be confused with vegan/vegetarian food hoping that the food would be good but it really isn 't anything great. I was gutted to have used my money on this as other great restaurants in town that always deliver great quality and many options for me were all open at this point and I wish I hadn 't been totally misinformed into going to the Oak. In future I will go in for the odd drink but not for food. Nor would I recommend the quality of it... PLEASE, for goodness sake train the staff in the difference between gluten free and vegan food options as you really could ruin someone 's night out and waste their time and money. Such a shame as I have through many many years gone here for gatherings and social occasions. Hope someone finds this helpful."

It's a different sort of establishment, so welcoming and service is brilliant from the moment you step in until you leave. The Afternoon Tea caters for all and my Vegan friend was delighted as me the non vegan...

This is my first visit since the restaurant reopened and they have really upgraded the decor, but I found the space to be a bit cramped. They have now started serving food, but I have not yet had the chance to try it.

Not only did I feel that the quiz on a wednesday was a load of rubbish and 'annoying ', trying to be amusing but really they sounded common as muck and it was also pretty dead. I gotta say the prices are ridiculous for wigan! I got a pint and half of lager and it cost £9.50! Everyone who goes in there looks like they have fallen out of the only way is essex. The nnly good thing at times is the toilets are reasonable and sometimes they have music on, That 's why I give it 2 stars.

I say 'surprisingly ' as someone I know eats here fairly regularly and has taken family members along on some occasions. The pub must be doing something right as it 's still in business but a few in the vicinity have closed down. The pub has a lovely quirky interior and the bar service was speedy and efficient. Unlike the kitchen. Given that there were only a handful of people in, the meals took rather a long time to arrive, especially as it was all simple uncomplicated food. The steak strips were chewy and the chicken on the Caesar Salad had an odd consistency. We expected a member of staff to check back for our comments at some point, but to no avail. Just a little tip to the 'servers ' if...

What a lovely pub. Shame about the staff (not all I might add) After walking in the member of staff had started putting the glasses away, said thankyou to another customer after placing they 're empty glass on the empty bar. They then continued to finish putting the other half away until asking what I would like to drink. I was told a very sharp 8 when asking what time they serve food until. The same member of staff then shouted across the bar, you can sit down you know, I 'll find ya while I was enjoying my long awaited pint, After feeling socially forced into sitting down, the cutlery then arrived abruptly with zero conversation and an unanswered Thank-you from this side of the table. Than...

"After reading the reviews we was really looking forward to eating here ,however it turned out to be the worst tapas and worst service we have ever received . After waiting 10 minutes for someone to take our drinks order we then waited a further 30 mins to be served with what can only be described as toast with tasteless mushed up tomatoes on , this was inedible and hardly touched , a further 20 minutes on and we was served a single dish of chicken between two of us again this was very bland and resembled nothing like a original tapas dish more like a chicken korma again this was hardly touched . When I enquired as to where the rest of the food was I was told they was very busy . With this we decided to cut our loses and asked for the bill . Before leaving we tried to have a conversation with the manager who is also the chef to give some honest feedback ,however he wasn’t open to listening , he’s response was “it’s normal in a tapas restaurant to receive one dish at a time between two with a large gap between dishes wasn’t it explained to you that’s what tapas is “We felt this was a very patronising remark as we eat tapas on a regular basis and know this is definitely not the case . To matters worse there was people who came in after us with multiple plates and tucking in nicely to their meals . The manager who was obviously struggling to cope on a busy Saturday night should have just apologised and admitted our order had been overlooked . If you are looking for authentic Tapas with excellent service in Wigan go to Casa Carlos this place doesn’t deserve your hard earned money ."
