"I am so sad to be leaving such a poor review for a local independent cafe somewhere that used to be my number one go to in town. The standard of this place has seriously dropped, they serve budget food sold at high prices, dressed up with a bit of rocket or Aldi coleslaw. Afternoon tea made with Iceland and Aldi cakes (not an assumption, a confirmed fact). The owner talks to his staff, in front of customers, like they are disposable. I am saddened to see that he has since expanded and bought another local cafe. It’s mostly young girls he has working for him and you can see they are not happy with how they are treated, but most I’m guessing too scared to say anything. I actually asked one, last time I was there, if he always spoke to them like that and she told me ‘that was nice compared to normalz’. Not a nice man. Won’t be buying my coffee and lunch from there anymore."

Both the service and food were immaculate. There are no complaints when it comes to the perfectly cooked and fresh bacon, the staff were extremely polite and provided to my family's needs.

Most surprising was that we have got the bill without breaking down the cost and including the non compulsory service (without known . Scrabbled eggs were dry, smoothie and coffees were very good.

Lovely food but atmosphere was ruined by the managers hostile attitude towards the staff and blatant disrespect towards them. The usual staff are lovely but his behaviour towards them clearly made them and myself feel uncomfortable.

A great spot for breakfast. It was my Friends birthday and we celebrated it with great food and service. We had loaded bagels and a cooked breakfast that was washed down with smoothies , hot chocolate and mermaid lattes. It was very homely and friendly,

I should have read the reviews before stopping here I've had the worst ever carrot cake, dry and terribly sugary. While the sweetness is a personal preference, the dryness made me wonder how old it was. My iced latte had a tiny bit of ice in it only so was more of a cold ish latte than anything else. The place itself was messily arranged and unfortunately not comfy at all. My disappointment is even bigger as I was charged over £8 for coffee and cake. Avoid.

Almost immediately on arriving and whilst looking in the display cabinet to see what I 'd like, a very rude man kept shouting can I help jeez man, give me a chance to decide what I 'd like!! Massively overpriced and coffee was tiny. Waiting time is ridiculous whilst young girls, presumably members of staff stood sniggering behind the counter. Such a shame for a small town coffee shop to have such poor custome service. Other reviews appear to concur with this.

The Nest has gone from a lovely place to eat to below average. I ordered the cheesy beans on toast and a cappuccino. Really that should have been easy. Cappuccino great, loved the grated chocolate on top. But the beans were awful in every way. I’m not sure what brand was used, but they were a very odd colour, sort of very pale yellowy orange. The toast was still bread and the whole thing was tepid at best. There was an accompanying small salad with lettuce that had seen better days. I realise that I should have sent it back at the time, but was hungry and needed to eat. Such a shame as this used to be a nice place to eat and I didn’t think I could go wrong with beans on toast!

I took my neice to this dog friendly cafe where I have eaten before. We ordered two jacket potatoes having seen the diners at a nearby table with theirs. The other tables' food looked delicious. Unfortunately ours wasn't. The accompanying salad, coleslaw and fillings were all great but the potatoes were not. They were very small, and one was cold and the other over microwaved so thatvonly about a half was edible. We mentioned this as we were leaving, not having been checked on whilst eating, and the response was very dismissive. Definitely not what I expected. Having looked at recent reviews it looks like something needs to happen to get this place back up to its previous standard. Very disa...

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
