Great food just a bit of a wait for our meal even though restaurant was quiet

We chose The Hearty Hedgehog to meet rather than head into Durham and it was a superb choice. It was a Monday lunchtime so very quiet but the staff were superb and the food excellent.

I regret that the restaurant wasn't busy during our visit, as the ambiance could have been improved. However, I believe this place has great potential with the right management. We look forward to returning.

I stayed at the hotel for four nights and dined at the restaurant for two of those evenings. I also had breakfast there four times. Each meal was excellent, well-prepared, and offered a great selection on the menu, with generous portions.

Excellent food, staff very attentive and friendly. It was my birthday and we were given a free drink to celebrate and my dessert came out with Happy Birthday on the plate. We had a lovely evening thank you and would definitely stay here again.

Food was good, but not outstanding. Service was also good. Wine was expensive, but that is nothing unusual for a hotel restaurant. I had the blade of beef very nice; my partner had the beef and ale pie which he said was very good. Prices were reasonable under £20.00 each for a main course. No other food ordered. The restaurant had minimal decor it looked like an old granary contemporary style. Service was efficient and food was served hot on heated plates. Would eat there again if in the area.

we were initially somewhat disappointed that only the Sunday lunch menu was available, and not the a la carte (as our first visit was, and we were excited to try the menu), but we all found very acceptable decisions there anyway. the food was well presented, tasty and the portions were so much that we had no place for dessert! excellent value for money at just £16.95 for 2 courses. the bottle wein that we have chosen was also very good, although the waiting workers did not seem au fait with normal practice for serving is a rare event that the patrons wein order from the bottle?! there were almost no other diners when we decided to have a late lunch (2.30) in this presentation I found the mus...
