"This cafe serves very nice food at a not overly expensive price and the decor is very good with a great history behind the cafe. However when the cafe is busy they seemed to get overwhelmed very easily and can’t cope with all the tables being full. Your order arrives bit by bit so when some in your group are finishing your meal the others are just getting served and this is at one table. Coffee and drinks don’t arrive till after everyone has finished their food. Coffee was also cold. A great wee venue if they could improve on the poor service. Staff are actually very nice and polite but slow and don’t always bring items over when asked. Requires someone to organise the staff better and it could be 5 star."

I asked the waitress what was in the soup and she rhymed off the ingredients instantly, then came back with the recipe to confirm, she couldn't be more helpful, excellent service and the soup was delicious.

Nostalgic visit with my younger son to the cafe I spent some of my teenage years in. Felt good to be back and thoroughly enjoyed the coffee and cake as well as a good look through the Melbourne music chart, happy days

My husband and I go here a lot for breakfast or lunch. Staff are friendly and the food is nice and reasonably priced. The Melbourne is a real part of the community with Acoustic music nights monthly and regular scooter club meets amongst other activities.

This is trip down memory lane to a cafe that has been there for decades. Pleasant interior and helpfull staff, wheel chair friendly and a menu covering full main meals to a cup of coffee. Relaxed atmosphere and dog friendly. Old fashioned yet modern, a must visit in Saltcoats.

The whole family went for dinner on the (once a month) acoustic night and it was fabulous! Great to have a family friendly alternative to a pub to see live music and singing. Good food, great sundaes, Elaine the owner is so warm and welcoming. Audience participation is encouraged and a good time was had by all!

I was meeting a friend as it was her birthday! We sat down and waited for someone to come and clean the table! Nobody came! So my friend went and asked if someone could clean the table! Eventually a guy took away the mess and what a miserable face! Never spoke and never cleaned the table!! A waitress appeared asking for our order finally!!! was kept waiting ages! But we had to ask her to wash the table first!! We did enjoy our food! But have been put off with the hygiene! So won’t be returning!

"Magic sea. we went about 6 months ago after fins had threatened for years. that was worth waiting for us to arrive a little early before they had changed the prices on the boards, that was lucky because they had the decision to offer us the meal times at the price at the arrival, result. to every way back to the foods that the woman had the scalopps and black pudding and I had the langoustines. I was a little confused by the cutlery laid in front of me, pliers and a funny fork, but it was good when I asked the waitress what I should do with it and she showed me pretty happy. the scallops were amazing and it was that really beautiful black pudding so a great start for them. what had done me well, I had never eaten longoustine before, but I had to go right in and it was a great experience and the taste was just beautiful. large mmmm in our bauch. the most important courses were turbot for me and the missus chose the sea bass. the food was beautifully presented and it was smaller that I thought it was, but I had never eaten somewhere in that posh before. Anyway, both can have beautiful vegien and we both came into them and we were not dissappointed it was perfectly cooked. the turbot was the softest spruce I've ever had and the taste was amazing. the sea bass came with I think noodles and she loved it. everything was beautiful and relaxed and none of the unem emphasized that you sometimes find when you can be a little bit on yourself in the leading restaurants, but here it was not at all. about all this was a nice place to eat, a wee bit expensive but they get great service and beautiful environment. dylan"
